Incredibly disappointed with my training experience. Currently enrolled in a 5 IT certification training path on my Post 9/11 G.I. Bill. Course materials are electronic only copies provided by a company called Logical Operations. While sufficient for a few entry level certifications, they are grossly inadequate for anything beyond that. Does not prepare you for passing the examination. 3rd party vendor materials provided (i.e. Transcender, etc.) are valuable, but may be purchased independently without the cost of training at New Horizons. While the courses allocate 4.5 hours of instruction time per meeting, this has just amounted to an instructor going through the bullet points on a power point for the aforementioned Logical Operations text akin to commenting on a table of contents. Multiple times class has consisted of less than 40 minutes spent laser pointer reading a power point of the topics covered in the text and then saying, "And if you want to work on your labs I'll be here."I've passed every exam I've sat by a healthy margin by purchasing other resources (reputable texts) and spending hundreds of hours in self-study. When I made a request for a well reviewed and known (as well as inexpensive) text for my CCNA course it was denied by ownership stating a company line that they did not want to track/support other materials. When I made a second request, clarifying that I did not want or request them to alter the course in any way, just pay for a proper book, it again was denied in similar language as the first request. Also, my Linux+ course was a week long OLL (on-line live) environment. While I could compliment them on the clean facilities and thoughtful instructor, these niceties are overshadowed by the fact that it was more akin to an into to Linux, not in any way shape or form resembling what is necessary to sit the examination. I passed due to years of experience and 180 hours of self-study with self-purchased resources (Linux Academy).I thought about giving New Horizons Knoxville 2 stars on account of how outstanding the staff is, but could not ultimately do so because of all the short falls. In summary, for anything beyond very entry level IT certification you're better off getting a good book and some 3rd party resources and engaging in self-study. It feels like the type of learning environment that prompted the Department of Education to cease funding ITT Tech; focus on their bottom line instead of what is best for the advancement and success of the students.

After completing 8hrs Excel Advanced mentored training where instruction was prerecorded with quizes + human mentor if needed, I attended a 3day Excel VBA online-Live! course at NH. I like the self-paced mentored learning better, but Excel VBA was not offered by that method. Regardless, the online-live delivery was slick! The instructor was extremely proficient, efficient, cordial, accessible, seasoned in public speaking/instruction, and made a tedious subject somehow reasonable for Excel users. My only reservation was the intense 3day schedule which would be better spread out over 4days. However, if you want a crash course in Excel VBA and want to come away ready to practice/apply the material to real life projects, you will not be disappointed. You will have access to the recording of your course for 6mos and a permanent copy of manual/practice exercises + online forum resources. You can also retake/refresh for free within 6mos.

After taking the mentored-learning Excel 2010 Advanced course at New Horizons, I was impressed with the effectiveness of their training system which my office was initially very skeptical about. I was able to learn in 2 x 4hr sessions more than I retained in 3days of Advanced Excel training at the University years ago. I attribute this to the NH one-on-one + online format which lends itself to fewer distractions and the ability to go back and review topics within a subject as needed per individual. I'll be taking online-live Excel VBA next, and will report how that format compares to mentored learning.

I attended Sharepoint 2010 for End User/Power User two weeks ago using the Online Live interface. The instructor was friendly, knowledgeable and the pace of the course was great...when she was actually able to teach. I'm giving only 3 stars because the instructor lost so much time - literally hours - performing tech support for the other students. Our class had a mixture of students at other New Horizons centers, commercial businesses and home offices. I'd estimate we lost at least 4 hours of class time whilst the instructor tended to each student who encountered a problem with their interface, which made the overall pace of the class excruciatingly slow. It would help a lot if the instructor could have a tech support assistant who could help these students privately whilst the rest of the class moved on. Otherwise, the Center is a great place to come for training - friendly staff, great amenities and convenient location.

I took a class at New Horizon Computer Learning Center in Knoxville last week. The class was entitled VMware vShere: Install, Configure, Manage v5.0. Interesting, informative and well worth the price. I am the primary back up for our System Manager and he has been using vShere to administer our servers. Since I will be required to work with this product when he is not here it was decided that I needed training. I am not completely comfortable with VMware yet but the class helped me get started. If I had one problem with the course it is there was too much material to cover in a week. The instructor did a good job however in answering questions and keeping the class interesting. I will not hesitate to recommend New Horizons to anyone needing computer training.

I attended programming VBA for excel. Training materials were excellent. Instructor was knowledgeable, personable and very competent with the online class format. I did not enjoy the format though, I had hoped for more guided exercise time and less lecture time. Also the virtual that we did the programming in, required me to be in Internet Explorer. Virtuals should be independent of what you are accessing them from.

I attended Excel VBA Programming as an Online Live course. The instructor was like the Jedi Master of VBA and had great teaching skills. She managed the online classroom masterfully. The facility was great and provided a good getaway from my young child at home. The fresh baked cookies were a nice touch as well. I only wish that they offered an advanced VBA programming course and I would be back for more!

His years of experience actually using Microsoft products, plus his enthusiasm for teaching were very motivating. The facilities were adequate and the hospitality was exceptional.

I recently completed the online PL/SQL Fundamentals at the New Horizons Computer Learning Center. The class itself was excellent and the atmosphere at the center enhanced the entire experience. The staff were all friendly and helpful. And the cookies made the day!

I did 3 classes for Web Design (html, xhtml, and, css lvls 1-3) at the Knoxville center. The atmosphere makes for a very comfortable learning experience, and the classes were taught by online teachers who were excellent. Plus, they had Free Cookies, warmed up so they were nice and soft and yummy!

I attended a Microsoft Access, Basic class last week at New Horizons, & was very impressed! The teacher, Mercedes Campbell, was accessible & thorough, & made sure that students understood each chapter of the workbook before proceeding. She began the class with examples of how we might use Access in our personal lives, and shared her own experiences & tips for learning and working with Access. Very positive experience - looking forward to my next Access class!

i have attended numerous classes at New Horizon. The past experiences were pleasant and i learned quite a bit. The last classes i took, Access level 1, 2, and 3, were completely a disappointment. It seemed all the instructor did was read from the manual. I can read before i went to New Horizons. I had almost decided not to attend any more classes. I was scheduled for a Excel class, which i decided to attend and let the school know at this time that i would not be returning. Imagine my surprise when i found a new instructor teaching excell. Michelle Crowe is a delightful, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to listen to. She made the excell class fly and informed us of shortcuts, and how to use excell to get the most from our training. She made learning exciting. i plan on trying to take the access classes again if i can verify that Michelle will be the instructor. Great Job New Horizons. Thank you Michelle

I recently attended an Outlook 2007, Level 1 class, taught by Michelle Crowe. It was a great class & her friendly personality and attention to detail made the time fly. I learned so much! My experience at New Horizons has been wonderful! The facilities are up-to-date (& spotless), & the atmosphere is relaxed yet professional. All staff members have been accessible and helpful; its a positive learning environment. The ability to schedule mentored learning sessions allows you to supplement your class experience & review the material in depth. Alex White mentors these sessions so you're still getting instructional access! Very cool - I'm looking forward to taking more classes.

I recently started taking Microsoft Office Suite classes. Kevin Anderson was my instructor for Word 2010 Level 1, & Excel 2007 Level 1. He did a great job; thoroughly covering the workbook material, as well as adding real-life advice & experiences. He was personable & made sure that all class members were comprehending the material. (My seatmate in the Excel class has been dreading the class - 'didn't like math'. She left very upbeat; pleased with the hands-on approach & the friendly classroom atmosphere - revved up & excited to implement the new skills she'd learned. As a PC newbie, I was concerned about keeping up in the classes. I was able to schedule a Mentored Learning session the day before each class, so I'd know the basic terminology & where to find things!! This helped so much; made keeping up in class a breeze. Thats a unique component of New Horizons - and you can learn at your own pace! Highly recommended!!

I recently attended the Excel level 1 class. I felt the instructor was very knowledgable and listened to the needs of the class. The material he went over was easy to follow and he even gave us extra tips that were not in the manual.
