Poor customer service

Not being familiar with any of the repair companies in Kingsport, I decided to call McLain Heating and Cooling because of their advertising. The first service call was prompt(June 6). The repairman explained my problem and said he would need to return another day with someone to help. Taking him at his word, I did not start calling back until July to inquire about their returning. Each time they took my number and promised someone would respond. Finally, on July18 (never called me-I called them)they had now decided they were not going to attempt to fix it at all. In the meantime, my second unit had overworked itself and no longer cooled the downstairs. I regret taking them at their word; I should have called another company right away. When I did, they came out the same day and fixed it. I will not be using McLain's for anything. I suppose it is no longer true that a man's word is his bond.

Don't make appointment with this company!!!!!

I made an apointment for 4pm today. I called the office at 3pm to make sure they are coming before taking off from work. After 4pm nobody showed up. I called the office again and was told they can only come tomorrow. If they come late today I have to pay overtime. I have never heard that customers need to pay for the service provider's being late, plus we wasted so much time waiting for their service. When I wanted to talke to their owner, the office manager hanged up twice on me.

charged for no service

Do not use check Better Business Bureau rating of Dhttp://www.bbb.org/knoxville/business-reviews/heating-contractors/mclain-heating-and-cooling-in-kingsport-tn-4428After calling them to get an estimate, they sent two people out to look at my heat pump which had condensatiom dripping inside the unit which had burnt up the sequncers for the emergency heat and several other things. They told me the whole unit needed to be replaced though possibly only the top part. They then pulled out three or four wires to turn off the emergency heat saying "We'll have to rewire it anyway cause of the water damage. We'll get you two estimates for the top only and the entire unit. I'd say you should replace them both if it's only $100 or so difference. It'll probably take a couple of days for the estimate so I pulled these wires out so you can use it a little the next few days but keep an eye on it and don't run it if you're not here." Paraphrased of couse. Three days went by and I heard nothing so I called and got an answering machine twice. Still never heard from them. I had been in the hospital and had a wound in my leg with gauze in it and the temp was upper 90s for days so I am sweating. Still no answer. So I had to call other people to fix it including Lowes who would only do the whole thing by the way including outside unit and that one was way too much. Anyway, after getting repairs because McClain evidently didn't want to do anything, they bill me for a service charge. I called and they said it was a mistake and that they had had a temp secretary and she prob entered it wrong and they would check it out and get back with me. They got back with me by sending me a bill with a late fee. I called back again and talked to them. They will take care of it. Next thing I get is a notification from a collection agency. I call them again managers at lunch. I call again everybodys at lunch. I call again and finally get ahold of the manager who says she was the one who talked to me the previous week even though the previous week the person I talked to said that the manager would be back from lunch in about an hour and a half {{{when I would be at work}}}. I told her what was going on and she insisted it was a service call. I told her it was an estimate and that they never got back to me or answered their phone and I had an infected wound in my leg and no air conditioning {{worked sorta but was afraid it would burn down the house with the water still dripping inside the unit}} She then said that she had talked to me and I had said I would pay it. I said no I said that I always pay my bills and have never not made a payment I owed but I owed them nothing since they had actually made it worse. They didn't even put the plate back on {{though to be fair if they were going to replace it BIG IF they would have to take it off again in 2 days}} and threw the wires in the floor. So now the emergency heat CANNOT be used and has to be rewired by somebody else with the wires not there as a guide and has a mess with wires in floor and coverplate laying in floor. Anyway, she said she could do nothing and I owed it so pay it. She said it was already at the collection agency and she could do nothing about it. I said she could tell them they had made a mistake and a temp secretary had entered it as a service call instead of an estimate {{{possible why they never called me back the first 3 days but doesn't explain the rest}}} at which point she interrupted me and said I'm not going to do that and if you don't like it then don't pay it and it'll ruin your credit. My credit when I got the loan for fixing my heatpump was 753 which is very high. Much higher than McClains D rating from the better busines bureau. I said again that I did not owe it at which point she hung up. Very unproffesio...

Highly Recommended

I have had to call McLain several times for heat pump service at two different houses. They have always been prompt, professional, and courteous - and reasonably priced. I highly recommend this company!
