My seven year old son went to Dr. Sandy Pape’s dental office, Isle Smile, in March 2014 where his face was scared for life. My husband, who sat next to my son during his procedure, witnessed a spot on my son’s cheek that was sizzling (burning and blistering) and turning red. The worker (who Dr. Pape later confessed to me was not really a hygienist) proceeded to argue with my husband that the substance she was using did not get on his cheek and that she kept all of the substance in his mouth. The substance was PHOSPHORIC ACID. Dr. Pape later confirmed that, in fact, her employee was negligent and she was being supervised. This employee continues to see patients in Dr. Pape’s dental office. We continued going to Dr. Pape’s Isle Smile dental practice only because we purchased her “Quality Dental Plan” (QDP) for $1400. We were told it would be better than our present dental insurance, as it would cover many more procedures and reduce our out-of-pocket expense. IT DID NOT. In April 2014, one of Isle Smile’s employees placed a substance on my husband’s teeth and stated to him, “We are going to be here all day if this substance has to stay on each tooth for 45 minutes.” The substance was to stay on each tooth for 4 to 5 minutes. 20 minutes elapsed…Dr. Pape rushed into the examining room shouting, “Get that solution off of his teeth NOW!” Dr. Pape stated to me that this employee was very competent but just not familiar with this particular procedure.
