Head Start is a federally funded child development program for low-income children and their families. It provides early childhood services to children between the ages of 3 and 5. The program additionally conducts medical and dental screenings and provides food services. Head Start also offers various activities that help children to grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically. The program enrolls more than 400 children each year at 10 different centers located in Coatesville, Downingtown, Kennett Square, Oxford, Phoenixville and West Chester, Pa. In addition, Head Start provides intensive and comprehensive child development and family support services to pregnant women and families with children under 3 years of age.
