Best Cookies and Pastires in KC

I love McLain's Bakery! They did my wedding cake in the mid 70's and I have been buying from them ever since.

The coconut macaroons and chocolate cup cookies are consistently the same great quality, as are their pastires. McLains did an assorted cookie tray for my son's rehearsal dinner and the guests raved about the cookies!

$112 for a sheet cake - YIKES!

This birthday I thought I'd go to the renown McLains. I've never been so disappointed in my life. Not only were the prices outrageous ($112.00 for a sheet cake?) but the decor was messy and shabby (and I don't mean shabby chic). Other establishments along that strip of Wornall look great. The floors, counters and glass were kept clean but the walls and behind the coffee maker were just awful - sit at a table and look around next time you're in. Makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like. Hey - Owner - you can keep a retro 50's look and not look like that. The Lamp place next door has a chubby little decorator (I've seen her there) who probably would be more than happy to help you out too - ask her!

The older lady that helped me (gray hair and a low talker) answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable and friendly. I felt bad taking all her time so I bought a cup cake and left.

where to start.STAY OUT!! BAD BAD

I cant believe the old Mclains let the knew owners ruin their name they way that they have. The new family that runs it doesnt have a clue on how to treat people or the hygeine it takes to be even around food. Read the reviews also on citysearch.com, I have, and they tell alot about that place.

booger cookies

This bakery DID have the best cookies in town. Until Feb. 22,2008, I saw a boy/man doing the cookie diugh with ungloved hands. And then digging in his nose, and I mean digging in it. He kept going back and working with the dough. I told the lady but, all she could do was apologize. As I stood there he did it 3 different times, and it was sickin'ing. I told the lady I changed my mind and left.
