An exception epicurous experience

The Jacksonville Merchantile is the kind of fancy food store you'd run if you could. It's got a smattering of really cool, unique things from around the world and lots of local and Oregon creations. Taste balsamic vinegars and oils, sweets, nuts and whatever else David or Constance Jesser have open behind the counter.

At my recent visit there, I contributeed to the economies of Napa Valley, Provence France, and the just over the hill Applegate Valley. And only one of those things was alcohol. It was wine. Great wine. A 2004 Merlot from DeWitt in the Applegate. I visited their quaint tasting room, adjacent to the wine making room, and tasted some surprisingly good wines. I was born and raised near Napa and Sonoma Counties in California and have been happily tasting their wares since the 1980s. And I just have a hard time with other area's wines. Washington, Oregon, Southern California, France, Italy... anyhow, generally, the wines from local growers aren't as palate pleasing to me. But this wine was great. So great infact that a couple gentlemen flagged me down when I was passing on the sidewalk to ask me about said wine.

The other really cool thing I purchased was amazing and unfamiliar to me. It's Epicerie et Confiserie du Provence

Red Poppy Blossom Syrup. So unique. David let me taste a few of them. And some Squirrel Co, nuts, and some candy. I bought some amazing caramel syrup too. He said it was made my a local teacher who quit that career for a new one.

Stop by for some memorable Britt fest picnic supplies. Or a little hostess gift like no other.
