Even though, the people here can be EXTREMELY rude, I will say my mother and I had a pretty decent time when we went to pick out my 8th grade formal in 2014. The owner was helpful in picking a dress out and listened to what my mom was wanting and there were a few dresses that were picked and were iffy. Only bad experience was when they brung a romper and even though it was nice, I didn't want to wear it to my FORMAL. So the co worker got offended a little bit but understood and brung a dress that was beautiful and they liked it on me and said, "that was the dress" I still have the dress and love it, I wore it again to a wedding and am very please. I am hoping the same experience when I go to shop for my prom dress this year.

This was honestly the worst experience ever! There was one girl Autumn who helped my sister look for a dress and she was pretty decent, but then there was an older lady who was extremely rude and just flat out annoying. She made many rude comments such as " are you sure you wanna try this one on its over 1000" or " that's the first dress that I actually like on you". Overall, awful experience, and we were just ready to get out of there! Would not recommend going here.

EXTREAMLY RUDE! I tried on a dress that clearly did not fit, but the owner insisted on zipping it up anyways. The zipper broke open and the woman became very mean and short with me. When I tried to try on another dress the woman sarcastically told me not to zip it up. I did not buy the dress and when I walked out of the store I did not even get a "have a good day"....will never go back there again.

The owner so rude to me! I will not be buying my daughters prom dress here!!!

Don't listen to zoe.watkins3. She works there. Nightmare of an experience. Jean Nicholson thinks she is all of that and a bag of chips- she acts like the world owes her a favor. In reality, she is just a mean, snotty, stuck-up ugly bully who cheats people out of their money. Don't waste your time coming here, because she'll belittle you and scoff at you the entire time. My whole time was miserable. The only people she cares about are the "wealthy" families in Jacksonville (aka the ones that are the rudest to everyone else just like her).

All I can say is I should have read reviews before I went and saved my money and time. Went in August looking for a ball gown for the USMC ball in November. The owner does not let you view the dresses on your own. She guesstimates your size and rushes you around the shop to show you what would fit. Luck had it that I found a dress to fit under $300 (a steal in that store). When I tried it on the owner kept repeating how great it looked for being under $300....sooo I need to spend more than $300 in order to look great for real? Thank goodness I took my best friend for a true opinion. The only alteration I needed done was tightening of the neck straps and a bustle (that they offered to do). My husband came home from deployment and continued with me working out, helping me lift weights. I had lost 72 pounds and wanted to gain muscle and tone. I tried my dress on a month prior to the ball to make sure I hadn't grown out of it and it was pulling in the thigh/butt area. So I took it back in to the shop to see about having it let out ever so little to prevent the pulling on seams. The immediate reaction from the owner was "Well have you tried Spanx?" And made comments to imply trying to lose weight instead of letting it out. 1) There's a decent split on the leg and mesh around the sides and back of the stomach. No way I could wear them if I wanted to. 2) I did not bust my butt for 2 years, 6 days a week, and hours in the gym to resort to Spanx for at most 1/2 an inch of fabric to be let out. (nothing against spanx but she did not think prior to saying it that I could have an extreme self-esteem issue regarding weight as some women do. Some fight truly hard battles every day and to me it's classless to not consider how someone might take that.) She proceeded to make a deal out of possibly not being able to do it because of the fabric but said she would talk to the seamstress. I had to ask a few days later, when in there with a friend, if she had been able to send it out. She did. And also said she would be putting on the bustle...that the seamstress had forgotten to do. Picked up the dress 2 weeks later and tried the dress on. It fit better but the bustle still was not done. The younger girl that was working asked if I could leave it and she would do it that day. A few days after picking it up I tried the dress on again with shoes I had found and noticed that the bustle only held up the outer layer of the dress, Not both layers and I stepped on the bottom layer simply walking around the room. So I went again to their shop to have it fixed. The younger girl that works there "helped" me. But her suggestion was to SAFETY PIN the two layers together......I'm sorry but I didn't pay $230 for a dress nor waste my time going there AGAIN to have them safety pin my dress. I could have done that at home. I informed her that I did not spend that money to have my dress half-*** bustled when it was supposed to be done 3 times already. She walked away claiming I was rude, yet it's the same attitude I've been met with each time I've gone in. She comes back and says "I guess I will stop what I'm doing to fix it right now. We've spent enough time on this dress" PARDON ME BUT...I know very well that they didn't have to do HALF the alterations that a normal dress fitting can require. Thank you for making ME feel like the inconvenience when I was there to correct YOUR mistake. I have never gone in there thinking I am their only customer or pushing for my dress to be fixed like it's their only one to fix. I've gone in with ample time and have been understanding about THEIR mistakes considering they helped me out because I gained to much muscle. I for sure didn't spend that kind of money on a dress I won't wear often to be made like I am an inconvenience. I have passed the word on to all my girlfri...

I tried to get my prom dress here last year. First of all, the owner, Jean, is the rudest woman you will ever meet. She is extremely pushy, refuses to let you look at the dresses on your own, and won't let you choose the ones you actually like. She's classless and thinks she's better than everyone else. She scoffed when I told her I wanted a dress under $300. She acted like I was the scum of the earth until I told her I was the lead in my high school musical- only then did she begin to treat me like I was "somebody". I was a size 8 and she told me none of the size 8 dresses would look good on me and that I needed to look in the size 10's. Talk about inappropriate. I tried on one dress that was nice and she said "That's your dress! Let's ring it up!" It was $500 and I refused, so she tried to bait me by telling me if I bought it, she would give me a free photoshoot to represent her business. In order to leave, I had to lie and say I was going to get money for the dress and coming right back. Instead, I went to Classics and found my dress- with friendly service and a negotiable price. Do not give such a rude woman your business. NOT WORTH YOUR TIME.

Never ever go their! The owner is mean,abusive, and downright unprofessional to say the least.She did call the cops on me and called me several names and said i should be shopping at walmart because i was a low class *****!

This place is the absolute worst place I HAVE EVER been shopping for any type of merchandise! The owner is a HORRIBLE person, I have never in my life encountered someone so unprofessional. I have no idea how she has stayed in business for "30 years" other then there is no competition so girls really have no other options. I bought a dress for my husbands USMC ball from here under the conditions that a flaw would be fixed. Well apparently the flaw could not be fix, when they called to let me know this they also said they had already ordered a new dress because the first one got ruined in the process of fixing it. When I went in to try the new one on it had the same flaw so I said if it can not be fixed then I do not want it because I only bought it because the owner said it would be fixed. Well long story short they tried to fix it, I got it home and it LOOKED CHEAP! So when I took it back in to explain the situation and that at this point (2 weeks till I had to wear it) I just wanted a refund or the dress to be returned to its original form. The owner would not do either! she was only offering a store credit after telling me I needed to leave because she "could not deal with this due to her blood pressure" after telling her repeatedly I did not want a store credit she threw he pen down on the counter and said and I quote "okay, okay SHUT THE F UP, and I mean it DO NOT SAY ANOTHER WORD" this is not even the tip of the ice burg she continued to talk down to me and cuss and even tried to turn everything that she was doing to me on me, she finally agreed to give me a refund and when she did she charged my card $2016 instead of canceling it because she "didn't know how" she put it through, thank goodness it did not go through, and then after she processed the refund she threw my card at me and then threw my dress bag at me. I never in my life have been treated so poorly by anyone let alone an owner of a company! I will never go back to this place! This lady is crazy and does not deserve to be in business if she can be so disrespectful to her customers! She is a bully, she uses that in her selling tactics by pushing girls into sales and she tried to use it on me when she did not get her way. The owner is probably a 58 year old women and she acted like a 5 year old who did not get her way. Save yourself the stress and DO NOT GO HERE!!! IF I COULD GIVE HER NEGATIVE STARS I WOULD!!!!!

My daughter and her friend went in at closing and instead of saying we are closed come back Monday, she allowed them to stay. Then she ridiculed my daughters friend for the amount of money she had to spend and when she didn't buy the dress the owner called them a very ugly name to her staff as they left the store. I would NEVER recommend this store for anything! The owner is EXTREMELY RUDE with no people skills whatsoever!!!! One star is the lowest rating and that's too high! (This site wouldn't allow me to write the words she used to my daughter and her friend, how sad for her)

BEST PLACE TO GO if looking for a great formal or semi-formal dress!!!! DO NOT listen to any negative reviews. The owner is one of a kind, and will make sure you look your absolute best for whatever occasion you are shopping for! J. Nicholson has an amazing selection of dresses, shoes, and jewelry! The owner has been in business for almost 30 years, so she obviously knows what she is doing. The merchandise is incredible always in style and handpicked by the owner and manager. If you want a $99 dollar dress then head on over to the JC Penny because you won t find it here. There is nothing but top quality merchandise, and excellent customer service. They are honest, and know what they are talking about. There is something for EVERYONE at this store. Whether you are looking for a dress for the prom, marine corp ball or any other formal or semi-formal event one thing is for sure, if you go to J. Nicholson you will without a doubt leave with the perfect dress. You will walk out of here looking like a million bucks!

I am very pleassed with the service that I got at J. Nicolson!! I got a gown for the marine ball and they were awsome. I would recommend everybody who is looking for a gown to give it a try.

First of all, the owner is RUDE, MEAN, HORRIBLE AND OBNOXIOUS!!!

The CUSTOMER SERVICE is very RUDE. She was sceaming at me for trying to return a dress because the beads were falling and threaten me to call the cops.. can you believe that?? She is overpirced and you SHOULDN'T waste any time or money in HER store. SHE will tell you what to buy and its HER way or the HIGHWAY.. I DO NOT recommened this store AT ALL!! It is soo not worth you time!!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DAUGHTERS HERE! Traveled several counties with my beautiful 16yr old niece to get her first prom dress and was disgusted by the pathetic service we received. She tried on several dresses and found one she liked. Everything was great until my niece was in the back by herself in the dressing room and they asked her what she thought. She told the lady working that she really liked one there, but she also liked one at one other place we went and was undecided. My niece heard the lady saying awful things(out of my earshot and the rest of our group) outside the dressing room and even cursed and said she couldn't believe she was considering another dress in another store. Okay, last I checked, prom was supposed to be a wonderful, fun experience. These people were awful and rude and I was furious. So, we gladly spent $500+ on the other dress. I will be caught dead before I go back in that place.

This past week, my family and I ventured into J. Nicholson in hopes of finding the perfect dress for our needs. When we entered, we initially were very impressed and felt "good" about the store. The dresses didn't disappoint and we all found something we loved. The lady who helped us, we guessed it was the owner, was very rude and demanding. I wanted to leave the store, I was that offended. However, she had good merchandise. She proceeded to tell me and my party what looked good and what wouldn't fit us and we also couldn't zip or unzip any dresses, she had to do it all. That part was fine, I understand her worry. But, to be so rude about it and then to make her customers feel uncomfortable and to act so unprofessional, was too much. It was unfortunate that we ended our day on such a sour note. Formal wear shopping should be fun and exciting and this store owner obviously doesn't care about her clients or repeat business. I would not send ANYONE to this establishment.

On March 20, 2010 I traveled a great didtance to J. Nicholson to purchase a dress. But when I arrived, the store and the employees were VERY missleading. As avertised on T.V. that all dresses started at $100", was a LIE; only a handfull. I was greeted politely at the door but when searching for my prom dress the pollitness became VERY RUDE AND VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!! All because I did not like the dresses I was show. So anyone who is looking to purchase a dress if you don't want to be forced to a purchase certain EXPENSIVE dress, or be TOTALY disrespected; J. Nicholson is NOT the place to go. But if you perfer this treatment then I am POSITVE that they won't dissapont!!!

The owner, Jean, is awful! I felt like I was shopping for a car, not a ball gown. Instead of me being able to browse through the dresses, she felt the need to show me each dress that was within my price range. Also, when I did find a dress, it was too small and I felt uncomfortable. And she insisted that it fit fine and she couldn't understand why I wasn't comfortable. Instead of being honest and understanding, she was trying to sell me a dress that looked horrible on. She was very pushy and I will NEVER go back again.
