WARNING...DO NOT USE U-HAUL FOR TRAILER HITCHES
I had an appt. for 1:30, and dropped the Higlander off. They called me just before closing at 6:30 and said it was ready. I went to pick it up and there was no ball for the receiver and no wiring. I flagged the guy down as they were now closed and asked where my wiring was. He opened the back and said "there it is". To my astonishment, he had gone in through an access panel behind my tail light to change bulbs, and the 4 wire hook-up was just hanging out.
I was furious, but I won't go into all the details. I told him what a cob job it was and he said "that's how I was trained to do it", to which I replied "you were trained wrong". A friend told him "I don't even think its long enough to reach the hitch", to which he replied, "Oh yea, well you'll probably need an extension". The place was closed and there wasn't anything I could do about it then so I left.
When I got home I took the cover off and started to pull out a mass of wires. First I found and unconnected ground, then more leads that hadn't even been stripped, and finally the rest...nothing had even been connected, just stuffed into the opening.
While I was relieved that he hadn't hacked my car wiring, I was incredulous that to him it was completed.
I took it over to Cannons this morning to have the "correct" wiring harness installed and they called me back...it gets worse. The mechanic showed me that the U-Haul hitch has no tab welded to it to install the wiring harness to, and that he could do a much better job than U-Haul but it couldn't be installed to the hitch. Then he showed me how U-Haul had wired the power lead from the battery. There was a wire coming from the battery running underneath the car, poorly if at all secured with wire ties and in places just hanging down where it could have been snagged by road debris. It terminating in a mass of wire tied up behind the bumper. Check out the wire hanging under the axel.
I told Cannon's to take it all off and do the job right.
