Founded in 1964, JACOA, also known as Jackson Area Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependency offers treatment programs to people addicted to alcohol and other mind-altering drugs. It provides a variety of services, including medical treatment for addiction, meals for homeless individuals, prevention life skills education for at-risk youth, and education and training to individuals and families. The agency provides employment and preemployment drug screening, education, screening and treatment for driving-under-the-influence offenders. It also offers job placement and vocational rehabilitation services, more than 40-plus-bed transitional living facility for men and women, and preferential treatment for pregnant mothers and intravenous drug users. The agency offers a 30-plus-bed residential treatment program for adults with alcohol and drug dependencies. Additionally, it provides online training registration forms and is located in Jackson, Tenn.
