I used Carpet Services Unlimit...

I used Carpet Services Unlimited By Brad Hamel twice. Once in 2009 for a house I was selling, then again in 2010 for the house I lived in. In each case I had hardwoods sanded and re-finished, as well as, carpet installation. I was on-site during both installations. His crew was prompt, efficient and courteous. Two years after the job my hardwoods and carpet are both holding up well.

The installation was average...

The installation was average to below average in quality. Too many errors were made along the way, such as failing to mix planks of the pre-finished hardwood from various boxes to avoid noticeable color changes when starting a new box. My biggest disappointment was just recently (Feb. 2011). The carpet in one room has apparently started to come loose from the tack strip - resulting in a noticeable bulge running through the middle of the room. I called the office and explained my problem to the person on duty, who said he would discuss it with Mr. Hamel and then call me back.

Two weeks later I had not heard from anyone, so I called again. The employee did eventually call back this time, only to tell me that their work is only guaranteed for 12 months. He said there would be a trip charge, plus an additional charge based on the yardage, plus an extra charge if they had to move furniture. I told him that I had spent well over $12,000 and that I would think the job would last longer than a year. I said this was a very small area (the loft) and it probably would take less than an hour to fix it. It made no difference.

Overall the quality of this job has not equalled the price paid. Be aware that "you're on your own" after 12 months.

I just found out about this review from a friend of mine, needless to say I was very surprised. Concerning the amount Mr. Guio spent, it does seem like a large amount but compared to the amount of work that was done it was actually a lot less than if the different units were done individually. We supplied carpet and pad, hardwood flooring, ceramic tile and did a custom fireplace hearth for him. We were on the job for almost 4 weeks should have only been 2 some of which was due to the changes Mr. Guio kept making on the job, delaying other trades and my own guys from finishing our work. As to the wood, boxes were mixed during installation but Mr. Guio thought that if he picked a color of wood that each and every piece would be exactly the same color and that is not the case. If you talk to any floor covering store they will tell you wood is a natural product not man made which means planks will differ a little in shade do to the different way grains run. Some will have some minor imperfections and some will not, It is the nature of the product. Now you can go to a very high grade wood which will decrease some of the shading issues and some of the imperfections but not all of them and the cost is usually about double the average wood cost or more. Most people do not want to pay the extra cost and actually like the shading and some imperfections. With Mr. Guio`s budget we struggled to get him where he was, and he stressed many times we must stay under the budget he gave us. The restretch, the carpet was put in mid january 2009 he called us mid february 2011 I believe that is over 2 years not 1 like Mr. Guio stated in his letter above. The charges back then would have been a 50.00 dollar service call and 1 hour on site labor at 55.00 we would have charged him nothing for a couple pieces of furniture. I think that was a small price to pay $105.00 to come out on an out of warrany job 2 men with about an hour of total travel time and a solid hour of labor. I guess I felt Mr. Guio was trying to take advantage of me all over again on work for him at his house, He did get a very good price on the original job. After all the changes and work stopages and even days they could not work because another trade had to change something we did not get paid for any of that time by Mr. Guio. Also when it came time for progress payments we had to call Mr. Guio multiple times to get a check sent out to us, never on time. So when Mr. Guio called about the restretch and demanded it be done at no cost to him I felt here we go again. I am sorry he feels this way about our work, we try very hard to keep everyone happy but sometimes it is impossible (Mr. Guio) We have been in business since 1982 30 years and you can see this is the only bad remark we have against our company. Also I invite anyone to go to the better business bureau web site, we have no complaints there. The difference between this site and the BBB is you can say anything you want here and not back it up with any thing, and the BBB has an arbitration board that talks to both parties to get any issue taken care of for the customer and the store. This is helpful so people can not just say bad things about a company for no reason. I hope this will help every to understand we went beyond the norm to try and help Mr. Guio.
