My daughter loves The Cotton Gin. We always shop there when she needs a new outfit and have had many great experiences.

The owner hired my 16 year old daughter, and then fired her for not looking cute enough—on the first day. She called her out in front of the other employees, who probably all started worrying if they looked perfect or would be next. My daughter had done her hair and makeup, and was so excited to work there, because she was told by the owner in the interview that store employees wear the clothes off the racks while they are working (and then put hang them back up for sale??? That’s a little gross). She was looking forward to an employee discount, and was planning to spend all of her paychecks in the store, along with lots more money from us. The clothes they sell are cheap and very loungy, so why be so snobby to a 16 year old girl? It’s not as if teenaged girls don’t have enough pressure and self-esteem issues to deal with. The owner doesn’t understand her target market, if she treats teen girls that way. In other words, don’t come in my store if you aren’t perfect. Maybe the reason girls (and women) come in to the store is to help them look better and feel better about themselves. There are plenty of other boutiques, and we will have to take our 2 girls shopping elsewhere, to make up for this mistreatment. She has already found another job, and has learned a lesson that life isn’t fair and people can be so unkind. She is awesome. Glad she won’t be working there where she would have been under appreciated.
