Years ago I took a lawnmower there to see if it could be fixed. They charged me 50.00 to tell me the lawnmower could not be fixed. These people are crooks!! I don't know how this business stays open! If I could afford it I would put a huge billboard up right next to the highway telling everyone what a huge ripoff this company is!! Sure wished I could put them out of business! Worst company I've ever done business with!!
Took 3 items there. They did an estimate on what I told them to hold until I return and then wanted to charge me $35 for the estimate. They repaired an edger that I told them to do an estimate only. The repairs exceed the replacement value of the edger. On the third item, I never received a call back to let me know if it's fixed. This place put's things up on Craigslist after they repair items like mine. Beware. Yours could be listed there next.
bought a replacement blade for lawn mower took it home installed it and it was out of balance . had a major vibration.ended up using my old blade . i agree do not use a.j.s yhey cant even balance a blade . terrible customer service . cant understand how they are still operating .probably because of their overpricing new customers pay double to cover all lost business .avoid this joke shop
AJ's was very helpful with my problem. They offered advice and had all the parts, i needed, in stock.
I recently purchased a Snapper mower from AJ's - it ran less then a hour, so I took it back to AJ's and after two weeks - they charged me $60. So I asked them to start it up and they could not, so they did not fix it. The employees are "Rude & Nasty" to their customers and could care less. I will not return. I ended up taking the mower to another shop and they fix it in 5 minutes with a smile. Don't use AJ
Took in my mower to have the self propel belt replaced or adjusted, since it wasnt pulling well....3 1/2 weeks later they tell me its needs a new carb., new transmission , plus a ton of add ons I didnt ask for like blade sharpening, pushing a 400 tab!! I told them no thanks, and now i have a mower that wont run, and it was running before I took it to them!!
Had a female friend of mine drop mower off at small engine repair and by accident she went to aj's. To make a long story short they had her mower for over one month. After she called many times they finally requested that she have her "husband" call them. Well she is not married. I told her that I would handle everything for her and went to pick up the mower. When I went inside the two men working behing the counter just ignored me. After a few min. I said that I needed to p/u a mower and wanted to know what they found wrong. The one gentleman (using that nicely) stated that he doesnt look at the equipment and they usually dont even work on Hondas. Well to my suprise they charged $34.85 just to look at the mower for a month. The estimate that I could get no explanation for was as follows. $262.83 for a transmission, $7.36 for an air filter, $6.76 for a spark plug, $20.00 to sharpen the mower blades, $3.90 for oil, and $2.00 for oil disposal. Parts totalc $302.85 Labor $97.50
Better off going miles out of your way before using this rip-off company!!!They serviced my generac 4000 generator twice for starting problems. Both times they repalced the carburator, filters, oil etc. Both times the same problem came back to haunt me. They said it was damaged, I did not change the oil enough, etc. In other words, they blamed me because they couldn't or wouldn't fix it. Also, had to pay for both carburators and they would not even give me the old one back!!!!PISS POOR SERVICE!
I put my chain saw in there to have an estimate at their advice. i have now been waiting 8 days to get a call so I sent a friend down there to check on it. They still haven't begun to work on it or even get the estimate! They told my friend they haven't had time to even look at it yet! I will be picking it up this afternoon and getting my money back! I should have known better, they did this to me years ago over a lawnmower. I thought they had changed. I guess not.
This place is HORRIBLE…HORRIBLE….HORRIBLE and a rip-off. I don’t know how they stay in business. Read the other reviews. I didn’t until I had 1st hand experience with this horrible business. I took my lawn mower in to get the starter control box replaced and have the blades sharpened. The guy said it would take 2 weeks. I received a call 2 weeks later saying it would cost $387.00 to have my lawn mower fixed because I needed a new crank shaft and a whole bunch of other stuff. I could buy a brand new one for $20.00 more. The lawn mower worked fine when I dropped it off. I only needed the control box replaced because it broke as I was finishing up my lawn that was it. When I picked up my mower the blade was off and parts placed in a bag. I asked why the blade was off and not put back on. The reply was “you didn’t want us to fix it so we stopped working on it you don’t expect us to work on something for free”. I was amazed by this logic. My reply was you don’t take your car in for service and they tell you have a cracked window you decline to have the window repaired by them so they stop working on your car and bag up the parts they do what was requested and return your car the same way you brought it in not inoperable with a bag of parts. The guy then had the nerve to say if you want the blade back on I can charge you another ½ hour labor to put it back on.

ONE OF THE REPAIR PEOPLE TOLD ME THEY DON'T CARE AT THE FRONT AND THAT EVEN THINKING OF QUITTING BECUASE THE WAY THEY TALK TO CUSTOMERS.THE PERSON SAID DON'T WANT TO BE WORKING IN THOSE CONDITIONS. ALSO WAS TIRED OF LYING TO CUSTOMERS ON REPAIRS THEY DO.
One thing you can count on at AJs is having the bill heavily padded. Took a mower in for repair that had a brand new spark plug in it. The charged me $6.50 for a new plug it defintely did not need. Anything you have done will have two hours labor added on at $35 per hour.
I wouldn t take a plastic child s mower to these people. Mechanics are incompetent, front counter staff uncaring and unknowledgeable. They promise the world and NEVER deliver. Had to bring back my weed wacker 3 times. All three times the parts were less than $3 BUT the service fees totaled $105. AND it took 4 months the 1st time, 3 months the 2nd time, and wow only 3 days the last time. They don t care about customer service just How MUCH they can Charge ! Save yourself the trouble, go somewhere else !

We told our Toro to them to have them give us an estimate on the transmission because it wasnt pulling as strong as it did. They gave us an estimate for other things with the transmission, when we asked them about the transmission only! So we didnt let them do any work to the unit. When we picked it up the transmission didnt do anything anymore! We asked them about it and they claim they didnt do anything to it. So I asked them how could they give an estimate if they didnt take it apart. DO NOT GO TO THEM! We filed a complaint with the BBB.
I have dealt with various vendors over my years of being in the lawn & garden service but I have never dealt with people so condescending like these folks. They are very disrespectful and offer no real service to customers. The city of Humble should ride hurt on this business and get them to shape up or ship out…
I took my homelite saw there for tune-up....a month ago. The keep saying parts are on back order...and the attitudes there...my lord...this is the worst place of business I have seen in my 66-years on God's earth....How could they stay in business this long???? I really wish I had seen all these complaints before taking my saw there...please think about it before you go there...you have been WARNED!!!
I was have trouble with my rope on my lawn mower getting stuck. So I brought my lawn mower to them. I told them that I was have trouble pulling the rope out after trying to clean my lawn mower. They told what the problem was. I had got oil on my spark plug. They didn't have to help by telling my what the problem was they could just charge me to fix. But they didn't. That tell you a lot about them. They are not just there to make money they are also there to help people. I would recommend them to anyone. Thks
I took my 6 month old Guaranteed to Start Toro walk behind in since they were the nearest authorized dealer. The hot engine wouldn’t restart regardless of how many pulls you were able to muster. I explained the warranty work request over the phone and in person when I dropped it off. The clerk at the desk even checked the box “warranty work” on the work order. Two days later, they say it’s ready and I owe them $60.00. They replaced the air filter, added another piece of $5.00 foam they called a pre-filter, and stuck a spark plug in it (not OEM either). When I inquired just exactly how an oil change was going to improve starting performance… well, you get the idea. Their sophistry is very smooth and well rehearsed. They’ve obviously had lots of practice at insulting customer’s intelligence and trust. This is a happening place if you’re a masochist. At least they gave me my 6 month old air filter back. I’ll brush it off and use it next year, probably the year after that too.
