Provided by YP.comI love the paella at El Meson. I just wish you could order it for one person because I always order it for myself and it's huge. The service is friendly and the margaritas are great. Always enjoy eating at El Meson.

Provided by YP.comThis was the first time we visited El Meson and if didn't disappoint. There was a huge selection of tapas as well as many interesting other items. I had gazpacho and a tapas selection and my husband had a Caesar salad and two tapas. They were all good although I thought the soup a bit too salty. The sangria was very good as well.

Provided by YP.comLots of fun choices on the menu, the food was great and they have wine by the glass, carafe or bottle. They serve my favorite Spanish red, Ribera del Duero!

Provided by YP.comThere are 2 tapas places right next to each other here across from a megamall. I tried this one and was reasonably satisfied -- wine prices were very good and they provided a carafe as an alternative to a full bottle. Basic charcuterie platter was a good value. Atmosphere was pleasant -- bit of madrid shabby perhaps but to be preferred to the grand mall.

Provided by YP.comWe had a very enjoyable lunch. I had the salmon and husband had grilled chicken. Very tasty. We each ordered $6.00 desserts. This is Texas! For that amount of money we were expecting a decent size piece of tres lechee cake and rice pudding. We got a small scoop of rice pudding and a 2x2 inch piece of cake. Both were good but way overpriced. Doubt if we return. Our lunch was $70.00 with tip and no alcohol!

Provided by YP.comI think the food was more Mexican style than Cuban. They had a few interesting things.

Provided by YP.comVery pleasant experience. Would have enjoyed more with better waiter. Just happened to get a less experienced waiter. Menu great, a taste of Cuba, Spain & Mexico. Had a nice Spanish wine & Sangria. All reasonably priced. We'll go back

Provided by YP.comWe first tried this restaurant when our son was a student at Rice and have been returning ever since. The food is always well prepared and we especially enjoy the Cuban specialties---masitas and ropa vieja are not to be missed, and if you have any room left for dessert, the flan is delicious. On our last visit we met the owner, Peter, who ably helped us select a nice Spanish wine to accompany our meal, then continued to check on us throughout dinner to make sure things were wonderful. Niki, our server, was delightful as well, and we felt like close friends rather than occasional visitors. Food is moderately expensive but fairly priced, and the wine list is balanced to provide options at all price points. Great job, Peter and staff, we'll be back often!

Provided by YP.comWe started with the Patatas Bravas for our tapas appetizer. It was fabulous. Just as good if not better than what I had eaten on a recent trip to Barcelona. this was followed by perfectly crusty warm bread butter and a very light mixed baby lettuce salad with a refreshing dressing. Then came the house special paella which was beautifully presented. King prawns, large shrimp, Iberian chorizo, baby octopus, mussels, calamari, and chicken in the saffron rice. It was excellent. Had to try a dessert so we ordered the flan to share with cappucino. It was very fresh and perfectly prepared. A memorable feast.

Provided by YP.comI went for dinner on a Thursday night and must say I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and flavor of their food. I ordered the Bacalao (cod fish) with rice, beans and sweet plantains. My meal was delicious! My boyfriend had been there before and ordered some type of fish, which he seemed to enjoy. we also ordered the hand shaken margaritas and I must say they were good, just not strong enough! They needed to be stronger for 5 stars. The service was good and the ambiance was nice and laid back. This place is perfect for a date since you can sit close to the window and people watch or have great conversation. I liked El Meson and plan to go back!

Provided by YP.comWe went to try out El Meson for restaurant month and weren't disappointed. I had the pork belly appetizer and it was AMAZING! My husband had the crab cakes which he really liked as well. I had the Paella for main course which was very flavor. Our waitress was very nice and we will be definitely coming back!

Provided by YP.comEl Meson is a classic. Well-cooked Cuban and Spanish dishes meet perfect service in a comfortable and relaxed, yet classy setting. Good selection of wines, and good people watching. Their pollo al ajillo is the best, and I've returned year after year for it. Prices are also good. You'll definitely leave happy!

Provided by YP.comOrdered the fajita salteada and it was soo good! My mom ordered the quesadillas de la casa and OMG I have to say those were the best quesadillas I have ever eaten. Just writing this review is making me very hungry and wanting to eat here again soon. Our waiter was also a very nice chatty gentleman.

Provided by YP.comExcellent Cuban/Spanish/Mexican Food. Extensive menu with tapas and the best black beans and rice. Entree's and Paella's are great. My favorite is the Tampiquena "Cuban" Style. The steak is sooo tasty and it comes with a cheese enchilada. My husband like the Pargo with vegetables. It is located next to Rice University in the Village and we have been going there since the 80's. Great Magarita's too!
