When we first met with Trinity, we assumed that, being a Christian company, we could trust them and put our faith in them working with us honestly to provide top-notch service and do everything as unto the Lord (Col 3:23). We assumed that they would do what they said they would do and that they would point out to us anything that we didn’t know we’d need. We didn’t know that we’d have to identify and itemize in writing everything that would need to be done and have that stated in the contract. We spent many hours with them discussing our wishes and your services, but the contract didn’t have everything in there that we discussed and we naively just assumed they had it under control - that it was all in their hands.

We are not unreasonable people and would have understood if any unexpected things were encountered after work began that would result in additional charges, but things were said or implied by the company owner after the contract was signed with no mention of any additional charges and no mention of the fact that you were not going to do them unless we drew up an addendum.

Prior to any work starting and after the contract was signed, the owner and two employees came onsite to assess the work needed and take measurements. At that time, the owner himself made statements regarding things that the company would do that were not specifically in the contract. The owner implied that the wall would be smoothed out or replaced and painted. The owner stated that since the floor had a noticeable slope (which we didn’t realize), that the company would check under the house for structural damage. I don’t believe that this was ever done. The owner also assessed the location of the microwave vent exhaust and noted that they would have to do a little work to make it work right since the location was not where it would be would this all be new construction. There was no mention of any additional charge to mount the microwave and do this vent work and it was conveyed to us as a simple thing that the company would take care of, yet, after the complaint about the wall (see below), this now became an additional charge. The owner told me that they normally charge $250 for this, but when it came time for the work to be done, I was called and asked whether or not I wanted it to be done for $175. This of course, had to be done and we would have had no problem paying $175 or $250 for this, but again, no mention at the time that this was extra work that would have to be paid for.

After being told that they weren’t going to do anything to fix the wall and that removing the chair railing was “only a suggestion” and coupled with the poor job of drilling the cabinet hardware holes, our feelings toward the company and the owner turned very sour and our treatment seemed to change. From then on, we were reluctant to point out any issues that we found for fear that the owner would retaliate by not putting the appropriate amount of tile on the walls or otherwise not do what we assumed they would do. Also, regarding the chair rail, they removed it all (except for one piece that they said they would remove, but didn’t, so I had to do it so that the sheet rock person would coat it) just before they put the cabinets in on the first or second day. If they had no intention of mudding over the hole left, they should have left it up except for where the cabinets are. But the owner told me that since I hadn’t taken it down, they did. So why create additional work for us to have to pay someone to mud and sand the wall if they hadn’t intended to do that from the beginning?

After our complaint, the owner came onsite with the sheet rock subcontractor owner to discuss the wall situation. That subcontract owner inspected the wall and the multiple layers of wallpaper and laminate and said they could take care of it all, but when the sheet r
