Good wood fired pizza. Usually very busy at lunch with lots of staff from the University.

I attended Gutch's for my birthday. The waitress started out having a bit of a snarky attitude, but my guests and I just tried to ignore it and enjoy our meal. I asked what she thought of one of the menu items, and she told me it was a great choice, so I ordered the "Shrimp Scampi". I haven't gone to culinary school, but have eaten at many restaurants in my lifetime, and what I received was neither shrimp scampi nor was it even remotely edible. I told the waitress that I couldn't eat it and she directly offered to allow me to speak with the manager. I didn't think that would be neccessary because I just wanted to order something else. My guests were already eating their meals, so I was trying to be quick about it. She took my order, after telling me that I was wrong because, "that's what shrimp scampi tastes like." and took my menu and slammed it down on the hostesses podium. On her way to the kitchen she stopped and spoke with at least three other employees to tell them how much I had upset her. I had kept my cool through this whole ordeal so far, but my boyfriend couldn't take any more. He raised his voice and said, "If you have something to say, you can say it to us!" The manager, who she had been speaking with, all the while flipping her head back and forth with a lot of attitude, proceeded to come to our table and tell us that we would "f***ing pay for our food god dammit." This man never even asked what happened. Needless to say, we paid for our meal, minus mine, and left.



The drinks were good. My guests said that their meals were good. If they had just politely given me new food, that waitress wouldn't have heard anything bad coming from me. Come to find out, the meal she had recommended to me, she admitted she had never even had it before, thank you Gutch's owner and staff for a terrible end to a previously good business relationship. I can't believe that Gutch's was once my favorite place to eat in Hays.

The new menu at Gutch's is a nice feature. The food and service is always very good. The atmosphere is very inviting nothing loud like some other places, it is just a nice place to go out to eat.
