The only reason I give them 3 stars is because I've had both exceptional care there, and then not! Our first experience with Blue Pearl was with the oncologist, Dr. Swanson. She's not just a capable and experienced cancer vet, but a warm, compassionate human as well. Though our circumstances and time with her were heartbreaking ( terminal cancer ) she made it bearable. However...in a recent trip there with our new 7 week old puppy, mistakes were made that they not only refused to acknowledge, but cost us an extra $600. Our puppy had a UTI, and after a course of prescribed antibiotics we returned there, as the UTI symptoms returned within two days after the prescribed course was completed. We had more tests done and was sent home with the same antibiotic, to begin another course of treatment. The antibiotic is in a powder form, that they mixed with water there at Blue Pearl before sending it home with us. Once home from the second trip, I noticed that the new bottle was nearly half as full as the same bottle was from the first visit. When you put the two side by side you could see the first bottle ( On the left, pictured ) ) was still nearly half full after the treatment course, whereas the new bottle ( on the right ) was just at half full to start. The packaging stated there was supposed to be 14mls. of water added to the powder, and it was clear to me that the first bottle STARTED with roughly twice that amount, making THAT bottle full to the top from the start, thereby delivering a diluted version of the antibiotic. It not only explained why I still had half a bottle left over, but also points to why the first round didn't do the job! I called the vet the same day I discovered the discrepancy, and she agreed, the first bottle should have been nearly gone after the course of treatment. People make mistakes...it's what you do to make it right that makes all the difference. They simply didn't seem to care about the error.

I wish we would have read other reviews before bringing our puppy here but sadly that wasnt the case so hopefully other people will reserch before coming here because all they want is money. Our puppy wasnt feeling himself and it was after hours so the closest option was here. After a 4 hour wait they finally looked at him and said that he was just uncomfortable from aome food bloat. After they gave him some relaxers and said he was stable they wanted to run a couple more test. When they got the blood results back they said his liver wasnt working and that he needed to be hooked up to an iv and kept there until a specialist could see him. They gave us a quote for almost $10,000 and pretty much said he we pay that and that buys him time until the specialist comes up with a solution or we take him home and he suffers or we put him down everything they say is to make you feel bad and spend money so your pet doesnt suffer. Sitting in that room waiting was the saddest place every because almost every person that walked in with their pet left in tears without them weather they were put down or getting expensive treatment not knowing if they could pay this months bills or send their kids to college...

I followed their process with an exam and consultation, the Doctor/Specialist had us do unneeded pre- surgical tests and didn't do what was actually needed to properly assess(cat-scan) or diagnose the dog before going into a major surgery. My dog didn't need to be put under the knife, go under anesthesia or leave with aspiration pneumonia. He came back in worse shape than when we left him & this all could have been avoided. We did not sign up for an exploratory surgeryy, I want my $2330 refunded.

Expensive. I live 2.5 hours away. After a $400.00 diagnoses. (Another Vet took the x-rays that I had already paid for.) The morning of the operation I was half way to Grand Rapids when they called my cell phone and told me the Radiologist wasn't coming and postponed the operation. (They did tell me they could do the ctScan someplace else but it would cost more than the $5300.00 they were going to charge me.) So I went to another Vet (VetMed in Bay City) and they said they would do the operation for $1500.00. Blue Pearl uses your love for your pet as a profit factor. Blue Pearl is all about the money. Don't take your pet to Blue Pearl.

If you want your pet to die take them here..

My 10 month old male kitty (Marty) became sick on New Years eve. His treatment was going to cost $4,000.00. I could not afford it and begged them to try and find a way to help save him. They told me without the money that they would do nothing. My baby kitty was dying and all they cared about was money. After they rejected me and Marty I search all over west Michigan for a vet clinic thacould help us. No one answered.
I had to take my dying kitten home with some pain killer from this terrible place. I ended up loosing my Kitty to sleep on January 2nd. My vet clinic which is a wonderful place, They told me if they had been open they his treatment would have cost me only $500.00.
Michigan Veteranary Specialist killed my 10 month old kitten because they only take care of supper rich peoples pets. They are a ton of kitty killing bastards. If you love your pet DON'T COME HERE.

My dog was misdiagnosed with pancreatitis when he had terminal cancer. They indicated he would be fine with a feeding tube. The tube they put in came out on the drive home and they refused to put it back in for 48 hours and then put the wrong tube in. My dog suffered incredible pain in their care and then was put to sleep. May he forgive me for bringing him to this facility.

Dr. showed up at 2:30 for a 2 pm appt., though no one was waiting. Very expensive, $130. to look at his eyes. She said he would need an RX for drops forever, and I could fill it at their pharmacy, but they would not. Too many problems to list, but very unhappy.

Not worth the price. I went there and the Vet looked at the wrong dogs X-rays and medical info before my appointment. My appointment turned from focus on my dogs poly arthritis to the diagnosis of LUNG CANCER due to spots on another dogs X-rays. I was devastated and all we talked about was cancer and palliative care for her since it had spread. They recommended chest x-rays which we went to our normal Vet to get. Turns out, the X-rays MVS had of my dog were only of her front two wrists not her thoracic cavity so our Vet called and questioned them. They did refund us for the appointment (but not the unneeded X-rays) but the simple carelessness of a Vet tech and the Vet caused me a lot of devastation on my DUE DATE. My Vet seems to know just as much as these people so I will not be going back... I would rather drive to MSU for their Vets if I ever need more insight. It's not cool that I though my dog was going to die because of a mistake.

One of a kind staff!

Please consider taking your pet here first! Our boxer fell ill 3 days before Christmas. When our regular vet said they could not help, Michigan Vet Specialists tried everything they could to help! I wish there were more people in the world as caring, helpful, and honest as this staff.
