You will be blamed for their mistakes

If you are a jeweler who needs CAD services or manufacturing, you cannot count on Cadsmithing LLC- specifically, Thomas Cavagnaro. I sent him two pieces of jewelry to 'print' from his CAD system. He was to finish them as they models described. Granted a tight schedule was clearly specified, which Thomas confidently agreed to. At no time did Thomas call or email me to discuss design issues, difficulties or changes to my designs or finishes. I sent him stones to set, which he assured me were no problem for him to set. I set no demands that Thomas was not fully aware of when he took the project on.

He returned very poor workmanship indeed. He decided, without any authorization from me to sandblast my pieces, thereby adding a bumpy surface to both pieces. He decided to only add a high gloss to areas HE decided would be best. The model I sent was a full gloss surface. The sand blasting ruined the pieces. I also indicated in my model how I wanted the stones to be set, but he chose to do it differently- again, without permission or even discussion with me. The prongs go off in every direction and the ring holes are bumpy and terribly uneven from his bad polishing job. He simply cut off some of my prongs and decided to do a rub over setting on two of the stones- the rub-overs were terrible!

When I recently asked him to redo the rings, he wrote back complaining that the gems were not cut evenly (which gems ARE?) and did not address the sandblasting, the gem settings, the cutting off of prongs- without authorization- at all. He complained about the time frame (which never changed from the day he took the project on!). He blamed my design (which he saw before he agreed to the project!) as the problem. He implied that my design was poor and that I was a poor jewelry designer- that no other company could have produced the pieces as specified- He told me I would learn more about how to produce a 'manufacture-able' piece as I gained experience. Huh!

Now, I was willing to let Mr. Cavagnaro re-do the rings with no ill feelings- anyone can make mistakes- but his unbelievably defensive and unprofessional response ends my relationship with Cadsmithing LLC for good.

It seems to this jeweler that Mr. Cavagnaro should have refused the project if he believed himself incapable of producing the design as specified, don't you? It seems, further, that he should have refused the project if the time frame was not appropriate to produce professional results. It also seems to this reviewer that Mr. Cavagnaro should have asked permission before changing MY prong decisions, My finishing decisions, and My stone setting decisions. After all, it IS my design- isn't it???
