I read a very negative review and almost decided not to try out this place. I'm very glad that I did, too. I went with a woman who I now call my girlfriend. She is trained and worked as a chef in Colorado resorts. We were both very happy with the experience, from the taste to the portions to the prices to the service. I can't remember what we both had, but I do remember that I played a little game that I like to play sometimes and ask the server to bring me whatever she thinks I should try before leaving the restaurant. Our server was a little hesitant to play along at first, but surprised me with a most excellent chicken dish. She got flustered and forgot to open and pour the wine we brought, but she did bring an opener so we were able to do it ourselves. That was the biggest negative we could find with the place. I know, right? I just called to make a reservation for Valentine's day in a couple of days. I wasn't sure if I really needed to do that or not, because when I was there last, there was plenty of parking and plenty of empty tables. I just don't understand why. This is a fabulous place to dine and I was very surprised to find it in dirty little ol' Gatesville, Texas. It is like an oasis in the desert. You MUST give this place a try! All I can figure is that the negative reviewer is connected to the competition and is trying to sabotage Prima Pasta. His review of another place sounded more like a commercial.

The worst restaurant in Gatesville. Terrible food, no seasoning at all and even worse staff. The restrooms are some of the dirtiest I've ever seen and are not looked after during open hours. I'm afraid of becoming ill eating there, if the canned and unsalted tomato sauce doesn't do it an infection will... avoid at all costs!

Welcome to the Best Western

Other than a couple of pizza joints, Prima Pasta is the only real Italian restaurant in the benighted town of Gatesville. It sits right beside the Best Western motel on Main Street, and they share an ill-defined, unholy--but symbiotic--relationship with each other. We're not sure if they are owned/managed by the same people. If one of them goes out of business, the other will follow suit in less than a year. The Best Western offers a comp continental breakfast, so PP does not open in the mornings. Lunch and dinner are actually pretty decent (by Gatesville standards, at least). Like all the other eating places in this dismal little berg, beer, wine, and mixed drinks are verboten by the local church Nazis. But PP will let you bring in your own bottle and serve it to you. There's plenty of parking and then some, due largely to the fact that the place is never very busy. This is one of the better restaurants in Gatesville.
