Purple Lotus Temple - Opening 2014

Po Box 35489, Fremont, CA 94538

Purple Lotus Temple (PLT) was established since 1987, under the direction of Root Guru, Grand Master Sheng-yen Lu. It is a California registered non-profit religious organization, IRS Code, Section 501(c)(3) and 170(b)(1)(A)(i). The temple, founded by Vajra Master Samantha Chou, is currently located in San Bruno, CA, U.S.A. and is dedicated to community based services. PLT is one of the chapters of the True Buddha School (TBS), a global network with over 300 temples and chapters worldwide. TBS was established by our Root Guru, Grand Master Sheng-yen Lu since 1983.

To-date, our Grand Master has over 300 temples and chapters worldwide in more than 28 countries. In United States, there are 35 temples and chapters. The lifelong mission of Grand Master Lu and Master Samantha is to spread the Dharma locally and worldwide, and help all sentient beings realize their true self-nature, be liberated from suffering, attain purity of the spirit, achieve peace and happiness, and forsake discrimination, so there will be peace and harmony for all.

We practice the powerful and priceless True Buddha Dharma, created by our Grand Master Lu. It unifies the essences of Vajrayana, Sutrayana, Zen and Taoism. Our branch of Buddhism dates back to the 3rd century taught by Shakyamuni Buddha and it predates Tibetan Buddhism.

In June 1999, PLT purchased a 5.5-acre land adjacent to the beautiful 471-acre Quarry Lakes Recreation Park in Fremont, CA. In March 2007, PLT was very honored to have Grand Master Lu break ground for the new PLT with Master Samantha in Fremont, CA.  PLT’s vision is to build a blessed future and our lifelong commitment is to disseminate Grand Master Lu’s Dharma, philosophy and principles, as well as continue to provide dedicated services and support to communities in the Bay Area and globally.

The new Purple Lotus comprised of the Temple (Stage I: ~37,600 sq ft) and a Dharma Institute (Stage II: ~26,300 sq ft). After 11 years of dedicated efforts, trials and tribulations, Purple Lotus was granted all the permits in November 2011. Construction began as of February 2012. The “Reach For The Stars” (RFTS) program was initiated in May 2012. We need to raise US$9.3M to complete the Temple by end of 2014 ( Stage I-Temple Capital Campaign). The Dharma Institute (Stage II) will require additional funding and projected date for completion will depend on Stage I’s progress.

Our goal is to raise US$9,300,000. Your support is very much needed in this once in a lifetime worthy cause. We welcome all donors. With your continued support, it will help us build for a “blessed” future! To find out how you can help, please visit our website at: http://www.purplelotustemple.org
