HORRIBLE EMPLOYER

I was an employee of this store between 8-07 and 4-25-08. Today, I quit my job because the Store Manager/Buisness Owner NAMED ROSEMARY BRUNETTI refused to defend me and intervene in a situation that occurred between myself and a customer. This customer, named Annmarie Santoro, is well known in the Staten Island Mall by word of mouth to cause scenes, messes, frightens other customers and has previously been banned from Gerald Peter's Gold Mine of the SI Mall. This customer suffers from some mental diseases, but which no one has specific knowledge. While assisting this customer with a purchase she began dismantling and destroying merchandise. When I reprimanded the customer, she called me a "b***h," then loudly made a scene and yelled out to the Store Manager (who was standing approx. 20 feet away) "Rosemary! She is being mean to me! I need you to come over here and help me with this! She's not being nice to me anymore because I guess she doesn't have to since you're closing the store." (The store is closing 5-10-2008.) Rosemary then replied "I can't help you I'm busy with a customer." I finished assisting the customer with the sale and expressed my feelings and thoughts after the customer left the store to Rosemary and her husband, John Brunetti who is a co-owner. John and Rosemary excused themselves from assisting me in a situation where I felt belittled, uncomfortable and unsafe, unable to function calmly by saying that I should know better, to disregard the situation because the customer is obviously mentally unstable. They want to “avoid confrontation with this customer because they fear she might report [them] to the better business bureau and consumer affairs.” I HAVE THE RIGHT TO FEEL SAFE AT WORK. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROTECTED and NOT FORCED TO SUFFER THE MENTAL ABUSE. ROSEMARY BRUNETTI IS EXTREMLY UNPROFESSIONAL. IT IS DANGEROUS TO WORK FOR HER AND SHOP THERE. SHE DOES NOT PROTECT OR CARE FOR THE WELL-BEING OF HER EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMERS.

Policy on returns

This Christmas my husband purchased a beautiful leather coat for me, there was only one problem the coat was too big. On 12/24/07 I was in the Emergency room with a severe case of pneumonia which incapacitated me for almost 2 weeks. On Jan 4th we called the store explaining that having just read the terms on their gift return policy that it was 2 days past the date where the coat could be exchaged. After explaining that I was hospitalized and unable to even get to the store we were told that it "would be no problem" being the trusting people that we are, we failed to get that sales persons name. On the following day we returned to the store only to be confronted by a very rude Manager named Judy. We were told that we could indeed exchange the item however she would charge us a 10 percent restocking fee. Even after we told her that we could provide documentation verifing my illness she flatly said she would not help. She proceeded

to give me a business card with an address and phone # for their

head quarters. I exchanged the coat and paid the fee and left the store. When I got home and looked at the card it was just the card from the store itself. When I called I got Judy once again and she told me there is no phone # for their main office and would not give me a name of a district manager also any mail had to be directed through this store. After spending almost $500. it was insulting to have to pay an additional fee to merely exchange this item but what was more insulting was the way Judy handled this situation. Further more there is not one sign in this store nor is there anything on the receipt about a restocking fee.(we can provide pictures of all the signs in the store) I fully understand their return policy, however if a person is physically unable to get to a store to take care of a return, and her spouse is busy with working and trying to take care of his family while his wife is recovering, how are you supposed to be able to meet with their policy. I think in todays day and age retailers need to make some exceptions to their rules.
