The Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf, located in Faribault, Minn., is an organization that works in partnership with students, families and the community to provide learning programs for hearing impaired persons. The academy provides an environment where American Sign Language and English are used to foster effective communication. The organization additionally uses resources, such as cued speech, total communication, cochlear implants and hearing aids. It promotes health and wellness through extracurricular, recreational, athletic and educational activities. The institute also organizes a number of events for students, such as literacy night, open gymnasium, Halloween parties, and basketball and volleyball practice sessions.
