My dog had a cut in his leg after getting underfoot - I calmed him down, cleaned his cut and took him to this hospital. I asked them if the doctor could just give his leg a quick once-over to make extra sure nothing was broken or out of shape. He put my pup on the table, felt around the area, and told me to apply antibiotic cream I could buy at CVS, then charged me almost $200. I specifically asked if they could just look at it and then I would be happy to pay if there was any further treatment needed, I wasn't informed that I would be charged so much for two minutes of just looking at my pup and telling me to do what I was already doing. No explanation, no treatment from the doctor, just a bill of $100 a minute. I later found out that they offer a vaccination with each visit, so I called and they said they honor that within 7-10 days of the visit which had already passed, and I was never informed!!!
There's a reason there are so many negative reviews about this place - these people only want money, they don't care about your pets, if you love your furbabies at all stay away!!!

Do Not Bring your pet to this Vet

I had a very unsatisfactory experience with both the doctors Risken and Press. My cat has kidney disease and was diagnosed with a Urinary Tract Infection. We did the blood work as requested. The treatment was 1 shot of an antibiotic which did not last. I was told by other sources that this is not the proper treatment for a severe UTI. I called the vet a few weeks after she had a relapse and asked that they prescribe more meds as this was not enough. They refused and asked that I bring her in again to do lab work again. I requested to speak to Dr Risken and he would not return my call but rather had an incompetant admin provide his response. I feel that after giving them 250 dollars to help us the least the doctor could do is call us back in person.

So bottom line is we switched to Ridgewood Vet and I received excellent service. They confirmed that the treatment Dr Risken provided was inadequate to eliminate the UTI. Ridgewood was able to provide the proper dosage of antibiotic and supplemental treatment such as Hills diet. They explain things thoroughly and in detail. Valley Brook just rushed through it. I don't even think they reviewed the lab work thoroughly and they certainly were unable to explain the results. In my opinion Dr Risken was incompetant in this area (kidney disease).

The staff and Dr Risken were extremely uncooperative and unresponsive. I would never recommend this Vet to anyone.

Valley Brook is the best in so many different ways. best doctors, best staff. my dog was a patient here for 15 years. Dr Risken did everything possible to help my dog with her many ailments. all the other doctors were great when we needed them. The techs and the office staff were all attentive and courteous . I would recommend Valley Brook in a heartbeat.

I am writing this review to pr...

I am writing this review to praise the staff at Valley Brook in Fair Lawn, NJ. My husband and I are cat owners and had a horrific experience with a vet in Montclair, NJ. We turned to Valley Brook at a pivital time. We absolutely love everything about Valley Brook. We have never had a problem when calling with an emergency. The staff always gets us in. The doctors are always so kind. The doctors take their time with each patient and don't rush you out. We feel very comfortable bringing our cats there. We have a handicapped cat who does not walk. She is on daily medication and requires constant care. Everytime we have gone for an appointment at Valley Brook the staff has been so kind and gentle with her. You can absolutely tell that the people working their are animal lovers and care for the well being of your pet. We usually see either Dr. Riskin or Dr. Boote and both doctors are wonderful. We trust their judgement and trust what they say. I could go on and on about this office. We adopted all three of our cats and the organization that we used brings all their cats their to be neutered/ spayed and examined. That says something about the office. They are willing to help out an organization to keep both cats and dogs happy and healthy. Thanks Dr. Riskin, Dr. Boote, Janine, Mary and Barbara! Your friends The Cooke Family!
