0 Stars! If you are considering renting from CRMC, I have one word for you, RUN! My son rented two separate units from them during 2014 - 2016 and we found the employees to be extremely unprofessional, unethical and uninterested in being a business partner in your student's college experience. CRMC's business plan includes taking as much money from your naive college student as they possibly can. Our experience is in line with the other reviews. Rent is extremely over priced and they charged my son exorbitant amounts out of his security deposit for normal wear and tear, relying on the fact that young college students are too busy with life and inexperienced with finances to take them to court as a mature adult would. CRMC allowed my son and roommates to sign overlapping leases so that during the summer of 2015 they were renting two units simultaneously. When I found out, I tried to renegotiate the contract, but CRMC refused. I could never recommend CRMC to anyone.

If this review prevents one person from renting with CRMC its worth it. I lived with crmc for two years in a house and apartment, solely because of location. In two years our heat broke and was not repaired. Our floor bubbled and was not repaired leading to dangerous conditions, our windows broke, our front door warped to the point where we got snow inside, and our house was at 50 degrees for a portion of the winter. Additionally were were charged for heating the basement of the house which we had no access to and was used by crmc as storage, an expense we were not told about. In addition to the housing issues our washer, dyer, fridge, and dish washer all broke multiple times, which we were either charged for or not compensated for loss of food.

Those are the maintenance problems we faced (well a portion of them). As for the fees the other comments mentioned those are valid as well. My roommate, a marathon runner, was charged for leaving cigarette burn marks under his bed; I was charged for a beverage stain on the ceiling of my closet; we were charged with repairs to carpets and painting of walls that when we went to look at had not been repaired or repainted.

Finally there is the lack of business ethics or integrity in the staff. On our lease, handwritten because it was mentioned in the pre-lease meeting, my apartment, as well as my friends apartment all noted items regarding security deposits and utilities. When these directions regarding these aspects of the lease were followed, we were not only charged for not following the directions we were told to ignore, but reprimanded by the staff and have had collection agencies brought into the matter.

I have now been out of school for 8 months and still am receiving bills related to my old house. I have dealt with crmc numerous times and have been given empty promises that the matters were taken care of. Like I said if this prevents one person from renting fantastic. Maybe I can cost them as much money as they have cost us.

Before renting from CRMC, go into their office and see how rude the people you will be dealing with are. If you're okay with being disrespected every time you talk to your management company, then consider the extra money you will be paying by renting through CRMC. They will charge you for WHATEVER they can. You're going to want to fix everything that falls apart in the house yourself too, because if their maintenance crew comes through they will break more than they fix and CRMC will charge you for that as well. It's so sad that most of the student housing in the area is through this excuse of a company.

We know of their incompetence....

Terrible: RENT AT YOUR OWN RISK

My roommates and I rented a 4 person house near the North East corner of East Lansing for the 2012-13 year, and experienced nothing but frustration with the CRMC leasing company.

Believe me when I say:

-$957 in Charges by end of school year

-$435 of these charges were personal item removal (trash bags near trash but not in can, and "non outdoor" furniture) -Ex. 9/5 -$240 6 item ($40 per) trash removal (who doesn't have extra boxes left after welcome week?!)

-$115 of the trash removal was charged during spring break, when we were unable to remove due to absence of campus...but that wont stop them from screwing you.

-$250 rear storm door repair (11/2) -One of the screens in our back door fell out, and instead of replacing a $5-10 screen, they put in a new door and charged us.

-Our security deposit only sums up to $2700 (with a 425 cleaning fee), along with a $360 charge for laundry, $75 for EZ cart trash, and $10 for winter break snow removal

-Many of the personal item fees should NOT HAVE OCCURRED AT ALL, because their leasing contract specifically states that they will only oblige to charge for liter/trash left in the FRONT lawn; however, all of our charges were from items located in the back yard, next to our garbage can.

-Also they decided to repair/replace specific items/repairs in our house without a reasonable 12 hour email notice, which they specified they would accommodate in the lease.

-They will also increase specified rent (or remove discount) if its not payed in one lump sum (check, cash or money order), which is frustrating for tenants to collect from each other in the summer months.

Their maintenance department is known for their slow response to necessary repairs, and for providing out of date appliance and service.

-The dish washer/garbage disposal was a nightmare throughout the year. Moments after starting the washer, it would start to overflow with water/suds due to a backed up g.disposal. They attempted to fix it but the problem occurred many times and was never fixed.

-Our washer machine never operated properly, and broke down multiple times. They took a few days to respond, and when they did it broke down again a week later.

-The refrigerator they provided was from 1992, and you could tell had been used by many of their past tenants due to its broken down shelves. One of the maintenance workers said they were planning to bring us a new replacement, but it was never received.

When you talk to the leasing agents about the rent transactions, they immediately forward your phone call to their attorney...who deals with all of the financial/legal issues. He is a competent jerk who tries to oversimplify the transaction ledger by explaining things what you have signed and are already aware of. When I called a 2nd time a few days later to negotiate the charges, he became verbally hostile and angry towards me personally. I did my best to state what we wanted to reduce, but his ego stood out when he stated "You have been wasting a hell of a lot of my time with these conversations, and I'm tired of explaining it to you." He purposefully tries to use his legal knowledge/influence against me, and stated that either we can pay this with our Sec. Deposit or they will take us to court...I also found it funny when he tried to come up with a random ~$500 number that we needed to pay off by Jul. 12 because one of our tenants was late with rent. Isn't it illegal to declare an additional amount payable after the written rent agreement? Also the only thing that this payed amount would affect is a dismissed $90 late rent fee, the rest would be additional to the security deposit. So he is just asking for us to pay money that we will be getting back in a month...in order to nullify this late fee, which makes no sense to me.

My roommates and I have been l...

My roommates and I have been living in a very run-down house that CRMC has advertised as one of their "best selections". The walls are thinner than paper, there is no insulation, the attic has been converted into bedrooms (for the purpose of CRMC gaining more profit) which exceeds over 110 degrees during the summer, the basement is full of mold, there are MICE in our house (we are one of the cleanest houses on campus), we have had numerous bat problems and lastly, CRMC is a huge waste of money.

Our house has dished out over $40,500 for living there for 2 years. They will charge you for EVERYTHING, even things you should never be responsible for. For example, the maintenance man installed a lock on a bedroom that was also an emergency exit. After an inspection, CRMC is charging us because we have this issue.

There are a mix of maintenance men that are creepy, rude, and come in all of the time to find things to fix, and charge us. The owner is somewhat snobby, not personable, and doesn't care about the safety or threatening living situations of his tenants. We have gone in with issues several times and have been cut off or he leaves it up to us on how to figure it out when it is clearly their responsibility.

BEWARE and think before you sign the lease. It's full of details where they rip you off. Think before you sign any of it. Huge waste of money.

Out of my whole college career, the thing that I regret most is renting from CRMC.

They are a small step away from criminals. When the lease was over not only did I not receive any of my security deposit back, they tried to charge me over $3000 for various "repairs" that they did after I moved out. They said they painted a dining room and I don't even have a dining room, other miscellaneous costs came up, many from imaginary rooms and windows. Their washer and driers that they rented are non functional and often ruin clothes. When I tried to ask about the fees and communicate with their billing, they didn't respond until a month later when my lawyer paid them a visit. They are out to take advantage of college students, stay far away as possible.

Awful

The houses that CRMC offers are all old and run down. The smallest thing that is damaged at your house, even if it is not your fault, receives a large fee. Screens, which were damaged before move in, cost us at least $35-40 in damages, just for one screen. CRMC has poor management and they screw over college students because they don't understand every detail when it comes to renting. Try to find other houses from other real estate offices before choosing this one, I'm sure you would be more satisfied with their service.
