Founded in 1854, Hockanum Elementary School enrolls more than 400 students in kindergarten through grade five and is located in East Hartford, Conn. It also operates a preschool program. The school s academic curriculum includes several subjects, such as English, language arts, math, science and social studies. It also provides instruction in art, music, physical education, band and string instruments. Hockanum Elementary School offers English as a Second Language, bilingual education, gifted and talented, extended-day kindergarten programs. It also provides special education programs for students with special needs. Its family resource center involves students in a variety of after-school enrichment and extracurricular programs, such as martial arts, mad science, Boy Scouts, student council, and journalism and game clubs.
