In the world of electrical contractors the name Sam Vaughan Jr., the founder and president of Vaughan Electric Company, is likely to be viewed as just one among many, but there is definitely something special about this man and his company. Sam started in the electrical industry fresh out of high school in 1952, with Thomerson Electrical Company. He completed four years of apprenticeship school and many evening business classes at Durham Technical Institute. In 1959 he went on to work for Modern Electrical Company for one year. In June of 1960 Sam and a fellow electrician, Lewis Fletcher, founded Quality Electric Company. This was a very successful business that grew to be one of the biggest and most reputable electrical contracting companies in the Triangle.
