lack of compassion

I noticed my cat was sick on the evening of 8/12/24. She was lethargic and wasn't eating. She could move and was alert though. On the morning of 8/13/14 I called this vet. I explained to the receptionist I was between checks and asked if there was a way to be billed. My wife is a teacher and she doesn't get regular checks during the summer so we live off of my pay. My wife goes back to work and we both get paid on 8/22/14. I explained it to the employee on the phone and she said that billing was up to Dr. Haiko. The employee said I should make an appointment and have my cat looked at and talk to Dr. Haiko about billing. I came in at 1pm and filled out paperwork. I explained to the employee again about my financial situation and she said she would tell Dr. Haiko. I waited for quite awhile. I was sitting there with my sick cat and 10 year old son when an employee finally came out and said Dr. Haiko would not see my cat unless I had the $52 fee. I was hurt and stunned at the same time. I understand they are a business, but they should not have made an appointment knowing I didn't have the money. They should have said so on the phone. I wasted most of a day. I was later able to borrow money and make an appointment at another hospital for the next day. Unfortunately my cat died just after midnight that night, suddenly. I feel that this vet hospital lacks compassion and empathy. They already made an appointment with me knowing I had no money, I drove there and was embarrassed with my child and saw my sick cat laying there. Dr. Haiko didn't even have the common courtesy to come out and be nice and say they couldn't see my cat. All they care about is money.
