The city of Dothan Public Works Department provides professional and technical expertise to the policy-making bodies of Dothan, Ala., to help ensure orderly, adequate and affordable services and infrastructure in the community. The engineering services division assists developers with storm water management, subdivision construction review and manages the public cemeteries. The permits and inspections division manages building and construction permits, construction plan review and inspection of ongoing construction projects. The planning and zoning division assures compliance with local land use ordinances, reviews property use and variance issues, administers the transportation planning process and coordinates the city s historic preservation process. The traffic engineering services division manages the transportation infrastructure, including signs and signals, paving and development reviews. The street division maintains streets, rights-of-way and the storm water drainage system. The environmental services division operates the city landfill, provides garbage and trash collection and mosquito spraying.
