Provided by YP.comDear National, there were no cars available and I was given a red Jetta that had warnings about a flat tire that it did not actually have and also about missing maintenance that I had no idea it was true, very annoying. The lady at the counter was ok, the shuttle driver was very attentive and courteous. i been always a National customer but this leads me to try other providers

Provided by YP.comStaff, from the bus driver (late at night) to the lady who helped me find a car, to the checkout lady, to whichever person found my employer badge after I somehow dropped it outside the car - all friendly and helpful! I always choose National when I can for the Emerald service, but these folk were exemplary!!

Provided by YP.comTraveled on business. A rental car is a rental car, the difference, for me, is the service and in both picking up, dropping off and the shuttle in between the service was outstanding.

Provided by YP.comI picked the car on a heavy rain Sunday night, so I picked the first one I saw, BIG MISTAKE, the car was awful, the engine made strange noise, the steering wheel kept turning right and it was dirty inside.
A couple days later I found out the probable cause of the noises and the steering issue, I saw the car had a nice impact from below right on the front right wheel, I tried to call National to change the car with poor luck, so I made a complain online with no response so far. I just deliver the car the other day and I just hope I am not going to be charged for those damages.
Usually my experience with National is fairly good, but this particular time was lame

Provided by YP.comDespite several days without freezing temps the car was unwashed allegedly because of concerns locks would freeze. The inside of the car had not been wiped down for a long time and was very dirty. I ran the car through a car wash first thing and wiped off most of the dust and dirt. Plus, most of the cars available were KIAs or other foreign makes. This is Detroit! I found a nice Chevy and the car ran well, the check out and check in were handled smoothly and the price was fair.

Provided by YP.comThe shuttle bus from the terminal at Detroit's Metro Airport was easy to locate and the wait was only 2 minutes. The Emerald Aisle had a variety of cars to choose from. Returning the car was easy as well. It was a very pleasant experience dealing with National Car Rental.

Provided by YP.comI had a fantastic experience with the National team at the Detroit Airport during a recent trip. They were extremely helpful when I arrived to select my car and when I returned the gentleman who checked me in kept thanking me and making sure I had a good experience. The bus driver taking us back to the terminal even checked to make sure I didn't leave anything in my car. You have my business going forward National!! Keep up the good work.

Provided by YP.comNational Car Rental is the 'cream of the crop' of car rental agencies. I've been traveling for work since 11/2010. I've used Avis, Thrifty and Enterprise. I'm more than satisfied with National. I'm always surprised by their friendliness. When I returned my car to DTW last Thursday the kindest gentleman checked me in and suggested that I can sit in the car and wait for the shuttle because it was so cold and windy. That's the difference - their kind details. At BWI, the kindest driver would offer their hand to help you on the bus. Yesterday when I picked up the new car at DTW, the kindest lady driver gathered up my bags and helped me. It's like they learned manners when manners and courtesy was 'in'.

Provided by YP.comThis being my very 1st Emerald Club rental, I was instructed to pick any vehicle under this enormous carport and drive it to the checkout gate.
I picked a vehicle and proceeded to the check out gate. She took my ID, checked me in and sent me on my way.
I then went to check my Credit Card activity in relation to the rental and saw an authorization for $1000+ when my estimated charges was only $193.46.
Concerned and curious about the authorization I contacted National customer service and was told "Don't worry about the authorization. They're just high for this area. As long as there are no damages and the fuel level is adequate, you will not be charged any more than $193.46."
So I proceeded on my weekend getaway and once it was over I returned the vehicle on-time with adequate fuel. I gave them a couple days to process my return before I went to confirm the charges. $731 was applied to my card and now I can't even get a callback regarding the matter. Not a good 1st experience!

There was a bus waiting at the airport to take me to the off-airport rental location and one waiting when I returned the car. Rental return was a smooth as checkout. Used Priceline name-your-price to reserve this car.

Provided by YP.comI am a Presidents Club level at Hertz and they will never see me again. After weeks of dealing with the worst Hertz location in the world (Detroit Metro airport) i made the jump to National. They gave me Emerald Executive status and I was treated like a king. Got off the bus and was greeted by an attendant (something Hertz never does) and immediately shown to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. YOU really do have your choice of any car in the aisle and there was an assortment to choose from. Minivans, pickups, SUV. You name it and they were there.
Getting out of the gate was simple. At Hertz they would have one gate open and cars backed up 10 deep. Here there were three gates open and it only took one minute to get me processed and on my way.
Head and shoulders above Hertz. Do yourself a favor and rent from National. I used to dread the rental car experience. Not so any more.

Provided by YP.comI left Hertz for National. My first experience with the Emerald Club was a good one. Able to get the car immediately, and the attendant was able to get me a booster seat for my grandson in short order. The gal at the exit gate was less than enthusiastic, but it was close to midnight... and being energetic and friendly may be a bit too much to ask. After all... it is Detroit Metro.

Provided by YP.comNational has a convenient system for renting cars, especially for Emerald Club members. It is very easy to get on the road and back to the airport, even easier than parking your own car at the airport lots.

Provided by YPmobileOverall experience was good. Vehicle I had reserved was not available and I had to take a different one. Charged the same price so it was OK. Very disappointed by the lack of selection of larger SUV vehicles that I had reserved.

Provided by YPmobileThe National program, Emerald Club, is a very good program as I like to close my car. The Detroit National location at best is mediocre.bCars are always dirty. Windows never clean inside or out. Always some sort of trash still in the car. I use them as I like to pick the type of car I drive. Hertz does a much better job of providing a clean car. Nationals point program is also on the weak side as it takes a full year of renting almost every week to get enough free days for a vacation rental. Also, their promotion 1-2-Free never appears on your statement you have to call to see what you have earned and you can't combine it with other free days earned. I understanding is free however almost better not to offer if it inconveniences the customer. Lastly I am executive elite with National. Doesn't mean much. Everyone who gets off the bus in Detroit gets to pick any car in any aisle, even executive rows, if a member of the Emerald Club. But if you are hung up on picking the type of car you want to drive, like me, you use National n
