I am a huge National fan and think they usually do an amazing job. Getting your care with Emerald Club is a snap and you always have a great selection. The one thing to know about Des Moines, however, is it is one of those small locations without an Emerald Club row so you can't just pick up your car. Therefore, getting in very late at night (after midnight because there had been storms) I was very disappointed with having to wait in a long line to get a car, even though I was Emerald Club. Then, they asked me to pick from a couple of cars. They gave me a Ford Explorer (pretty standard for Emerald Club), however, upon returning my car, the gentleman providing my receipt was surprised and pointed out they charged me an extra $40 per day for the upgrade (total $80 which almost doubled my cost), which even he thought was odd!! I was very disappointed that this was not something told to me upfront and unfortunately did not have time to discuss it with them as I was on my way to my flight. I will choose the cheaper car rental place instead next time time I'm going to Des Moines.

The folks at the service desk are wonderful. They always have a friendly face even when the lines are long.
The cars are in great condition. However, they don't have an emerald aisle or executive aisle at this location so you don't ge tthe automatic upgrade. Best car rental place in Des Moines!

I am bit unhappy because the tank was 1/2 full and they didnt mark it in the paper, so I had to return with full tank. It was disappointing and I hope they make up for this loss.

No emerald aisle to pick cars from. The selection was smaller cars than other National Locations. However, the service at the counter was exceptional the agent was so helpful and willing to offer each car available and even offered to walk outside to look at cars with me. Midwest hospitality at its best. Awesome Job.

The Rental Car Rep when I first arrived was very friendly and had my best interest in mine. The car was not quite ready, the agent apologized. On return the agent was very nice and pleasant.

I have had mixed expereinces at DSM. Generally, they are good and it seems that I as travel there more frequently, the level of service I receive has improved. As an Executive Elite Emerald Ailse member I am accustomed to complimentary upgrades through the ailse. At DSM they sometimes provide the upgrade and sometimes not. It seems this is dependent on how the agent is feeling on a particular day, although I have noticed a trend of improvement over the past several months. Overall the vehicles have been OK, they are generally clean and in good condition when I rent, and I can usually get a car I like for my trip.

When I arrived at the counter, the keys and contract were ready and I was in the car in less than 5 minutes. Return was extremely easy too. Very courteous employees. Will definitely use National again if I am coming to Des Moines.

I wanted to rent out an SUV but was disappointed that DSM airport had no Emerald aisle. But the rep was able to get me an upgrade to an SUV for extra $20 per day. The car was not washed and I had trouble with seeing through salt covered windows and mirrors.

My work involves a bit of travel (250 days this year). I've been to Des Moines regularly this past year. The customer service at National has always been great. Usually I end with the vehicle I want and have never had a problem with the condition. Just as in life you have to be patient and bring a good attitude.

When I approached the counter the CSRs were busy in a non work discussion and treated my appearance at the counter as a nuisance. I did not receive a verbal greeting and the woman in the center just pointed at another CSR to help me. This was a priceline rental so I did not choose National, but I will certainly doubt that I will choose this location when I have other choices. They also did not have my car class available and downgraded me. Very unsatisfying experience.

Usually have a great experience but not this time around. I travel to Des Moines often for work (3-4 times a year) - this trip I traveled solo & had a really early departing flight back to Philadelphia (which I never had before) - a 6:30 am flight on Saturday, 8/29/15. I tried calling Customer Svc Friday (multiple times) to confirm how early I could return my rental and if there was a key "drop box" so as to avoid being pressed for time with checking my luggage & getting through security, etc. National's Main CSR's could NOT confirm for me that Des Moines International had a drop box so they gave me a direct ph # to National @ the Des Moines International Airport; I left 3 voicemails there on Friday, 8/28 - never received a call back!

I arrive at the airport Saturday morning, park curbside with my hazards blinking to get my bag checked real fast (I can see the Delta counter from the car, no one was in line) only to come out to an officer writing me a $30 ticket! Your Customer Svc reps at the main National ph # should have access to ALL location's information including whether or not there is a drop box for keys and where that drop box is located! You should also NOT offer customers to leave a voicemail when no return calls are made - it is now 9/22/15 and I still have not received a call back from my 3 messages left!

Shouldn't have to pay this $30.00 ticket due to National Customer Service's lack of knowledge/information for all rental locations!

The DSM National rental car counter has provided me with great service every time I use them. On my latest trip, my flight was delayed and didnt arrive until 12:40 AM. I thought they would have closed up and left by then but no, the agent was cheerfully waiting for me at the counter with a nice car ready to go. I will always rent from them!
