PBS&J got its start in late 1959, when Howard Post, an engineer with the Florida State Road Department, was offered an opportunity by to help create Miami Lakes, one of the first planned new towns in Florida. Post, with fellow engineers, George Mooney, Robert Schuh and John Buckley, established a new corporation to handle the assignment. Each contributed to the $500 initial working capital. Services encompassed civil engineering assignments, sanitary engineering, highways and bridgework. In 1963, the firm's founders created an employee trust that enabled employees to buy into the firm. By the end of the 1990s, PBS&J's offices spanned the United States from coast to coast. The company has more than 3,800 employees and nearly 70 offices located throughout the United States and abroad. Its core services revolve around the areas of architecture, construction, engineering, landscaping, planning, program management, sciences, surveying and mapping and technology. PBS&J has a location in Denver.
