I have been seeing Dr. Janelle Hinson for a while now. She has done an awesome job. My only problem is with my insurance not with them.I have new insurance and they are fighting Dr. Hinson all the way. They ( Insurance ) would rather I take meds. that cause bad side effects than give me what works.

Like previous reviews stated this practice ONLY cares what lab results reflect and not how patient is feeling. I was having a lot of issues with the last prescription they put me on (Armour) so bad so my worst side effect was shortness of breath! They informed me I need to come in for another blood draw, and I did so. My labs came back in the normal range, but I had about 8 terrible side effects from this drug. They said...just stay on it since your labs are in normal range. I practically went off on the nurse that called me back, because they seemed not phased by the fact that I was having issues breathing even with moderate exercise (btw I'm not an obese person). My ob/gyn was very concerned with these side effects and told me to inform them ASAP. What did they do...blamed my side effects on an ob/gyn related issue (which they had previously done). When I informed them I had recently seen my ob/gyn within the past 3 weeks they then said, "Oh, well it's a general practice doctor issue. Wth???? Can they take some responsibility that it's a freaking thyroid issue, and HELP their patient???? Btw, this was Dr. Horst who I was dealing with. Unfortunately, they could care less about the patient or how the patient feels. I even told them my quality of life sucked cause of that med...didn't phase them. I had to practically beg for them to switch me back to synthroid. They finally gave in, but I will prob never go back!

I do not recommend. The doctor is useless. She tells me about all the other patients and herself- how she sweats a lot.... Never is the appt about me. I have an autoimmune disease that requires frequent monitoring and extensive lab work. "See you in a year. We will do an ultrasound In two." Waste of time and money. She isn't very knowledgeable. I've learned more in books.

Don't go here if you want help. You wait forever, go through testing, just to be told they can't help you bc you don't fit what they "thought" was wrong with you. It's happened to many people and a waste of time and money!

I have medical conditions that forced me to cancel and reschedule a few appointments when I was a patient with them a year ago. Due to these conditions I had to resign my position at work and lost my state health plan. I have tried to get back into their office for care through the VA choice program. They turned me away first because of a mistake between their front office and financial office. That I cleared up. Now I was informed that because of rescheduling those appointments. Which I did according to their office policy. I am being denied care by them because the Doctor reviewed my file and said no. It seems more to me that they do not want to take care of a Veteran because they do not want to deal with the VA system.

It's bad enough when you are diabetic or have a dysfunctional thyroid, and the stressful "service" this place offers only worsens your symptoms. Do not waste your time getting a referral here if you prefer a professional office staff and timely returned phone calls. I believe they are so busy having "think tanks" in the back on how they can charge extraneous fees that they have no time to really help people. If anyone knows a way to get these people to pick up their phones, please let their current patients know! I am sending them my last check in the mail today.

I have been a Type I diabetic for 40 years. I had an awesome endocrinologist when I first came to Columbia, SC 25 years ago but when he retired, I struggled to find another who offered the same level of care. I was referred to Dr. Laura LaBoone recently and couldn't be more pleased. She is knowledgeable, compassionate and flexible. They have a dietitian and lots of support for my transition to a CGM (continuous glucose monitor). They even allowed me to use one from their office for a one-week trial. Moving to this technology and feeling confident in this team has already made a great improvement in my diabetes management and well being!

HORRIBLE. I made a Yelp account just to give them a bad review... I've been waiting almost two weeks for them to return my call- I've called about 9 or 10 times and not a single person has answered the phone. It's absolutely negligent and inconsiderate for healthcare professionals to conduct business this way. Save your time and energy, go somewhere else.

It's awful!!! I've been waiting for 2 weeks for someone to return my call. You cannot talk to a person on the phone. Everything is voice mail supposedly they will return your call within 24 hours. I've been waiting for 2 weeks. going to their office today to pick my records and find another place!!!

My wife dealt with Laurel Endocrine for her gestational diabetes during her first pregnancy. She made every visit required and followed all directions until our child was born. She cancelled her follow up appointment after our child was born because she was still recovering and settling in with the new baby. We didn't find out until two years later when we learned of our second pregnancy that she had been dismissed due to the cancelled appointment. This has left us having trouble finding a doctor to care for her during the pregnancy since this is the only Endocrinology that most doctors in the area work with. I don't see how it should be allowed that one doctor has so much power in such a big area.

I had been seeing Dr. Brennan for a little under a year, and I am so disappointed in the "care" I received. Every time I went in for an appointment, he seemed like he was rushing and didn't even seem to care when I told him that, despite my labs saying my levels were "normal", my symptoms were still there, and getting worse. What is the point of me taking the medicine if it's not going to help me feel better? These doctors do not treat by the symptoms, they treat by the labs, which are proven to not be accurate for everyone. It's awful. Do not go to this office if you want to be treated like a person, and not lab results.

I was glad to see that I was not imagining things and after reading these reviews I'm very glad to voice my opinions. I was referred there and they gave me to a nurse practitioner. She immediately took me off Actos and Janunia and put on Metformin and increased Novolog a lot. I started getting extremely nauseated and called about it, was told to give it longer and changed to time released. Still continued to get sicker and sicker to the point of not being able to eat at all which kind of messes up sugar readings, but was told to continue using Novolog before meals (but couldn't eat meals which results in dangerously low blood sugars) and taken off Metformin. Called and practically begged for an appt. because I couldn't get out of bed until after noon thanks to nausea. Finally, I was seen and told her about symptoms and was basically told that was a gastric problem, not theirs, but didn't offer to send me to a specialist or even one of their endo Dr.s. After a ton of gastro test and multiple trips to Charleston, it turns out taking me off those 2 long term drugs triggered something in my metabolism which basically caused another long term drug I was on to poison me. I recently received a letter about the 30 day emergency care but I had already told them I was done there. I'm just glad I have a great internist that did help me find out the problem. I'm not knocking the whole office because I know some of the Dr.s but I WOULD NOT go to the nurse practitioner.

Thanks for the heads up to all of you have given reviews. I was considering visiting this practice to set up diabetic care. After reading these reviews, I will not even consider it. For those of you who wonder if your reviews make a difference.....they do. I hope my GP can help me manage my diabetes. I was recently converted to diabetic after a significant amount of steroids. I am seeing another endocrine practice that also treats their patients like five year olds (something I read by other reviewers on the internet concerning this practice). I am a college educated business owner of twenty two years. The last thing I need is an idiot nurse prancing around. Educate me. Give me the facts. Help me understand this disease. Preach.....I've got a pastor for that, thanks!

not very good

I have been to laurel endocrine every other month for 4 years. I have recently noticed a lack of interest in my care. I was sick back in February and March and tried to call more than once without getting a call back. In May, Ia certified letter advising Mr my diabetes was well controlled. This after voicing various concerns and being told that it was normal to have higher bid sugars in the morning. After cancelling my last appointment and advising I no longer wanted to see the same doctor, I just received a letter starting I would get one month emergency care and after that I would have to find a new doctor. Thanks a lot, I can't get an appointment with a specialist until December... don't go there, they don't really care!

Dr. Horst seemed less concerned with my thyroid management than anyone I have met. He continually paid attention only to my TSH level, which is actually an indicator of pituitary activity, not of thyroid activity, and never once listened to how I was telling him I FELT. The best decision I ever made was to leave him and Laurel Endocrine and seek a physician who has paid attention to my symptoms and my input.

I've never had a doctor that cared less than Dr. Horst. He is not a thyroid specialist. In 2 1/2 years as his patient, he never once felt my throat. He only ran TSH tests and totally dismissed my symptoms. He has a poor bedside manner. I'm now getting better care at a family practice. I'm currently waiting for results of a biopsy. Being a patient of Dr. Horst potentially endangered my life.
