Fruit Barr Caffe

The Fruit Barr and Caffe is spelled that way says Patricia Serna, the owner of the establishment, "because we want you to stop and think." and presumably come in. for a meal and a smoothie. Most patrons, however, usually first go to the 24 Hour Fitness a few doors down to think. They do that both before and after stopping in for water, fresh fruit and veggie drinks, and/or a good meal. Says one such patron, "the only reason I have gained weight is because I started going here after the gym, but now I only go here." A true epicurean I say.

One such drink that the fitness freaks, the road warriors, women's groups, community locals, friends, and passers by stop to have is the blended and frosty Cucumber Spinach Iced drink. Despite the kid groan causing name, it is one of the finest drinks I have had in years, absolutely refreshing and very tasty. It also helps cool the jalapeƱo burn should one dare bite into the garnishment that comes with the ham sandwich, another fabulous treat in and of itself. The photo's tell the taste story better than I ever can, have a look.

The Fruit Barr Caffe is kid friendly with a private, albeit small library, two TV's, lounge chairs a stage, and a magic mike karaoke. This place, said the health inspector upon delivering it's "A" rating said it was hard to classify, "it is a cross between Starbucks, Jamba Juice and the finest of deli's," Mexican style, I might add. The menu is expansive and you will be hard pressed to find a paltry meal here.

This place should be on your must visit list when in Chula Vista.
