The agency works towards promoting and protecting the public health. It monitors food products, as well as helps public get the science-based information needed to improve health. The agency operates the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, which regulates biological products for disease prevention and treatment. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has a drug evaluation and research center that evaluates new drugs before they are sold and monitors TV, radio and print advertisements for various drugs. The agency also maintains the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, which is responsible for the safety of food supply throughout the U.S. Headquartered in Rockville, Md., The U.S. Food and Drug Administration maintains an office in Chicago.
