Im a 2d visual artist with my discipline in oil painting. My studio is located in the neighborhood of Rogers Park in Chicago. My work hangs in a few local restaurants and I participate in exhibitions here as well. Some of my work can be viewed in the settings of Kansas City, Missouri and Omaha, Nebraska as well. As an artist I work hard to develop works that create a narrative around the concept of aesthetic and personal transcendence, growth through change both personal and universal, and how we as a society have come to view it. I like to challenge my viewers to open themselves up to their gut feeling and initial reaction and develop an understanding of the imagery and my process from there. What did you see and how did you feel when you first looked at the painting? After being with it longer how did your feelings change? What does the nature of that change have to say? Ultimately I strive for my body of work to create dialogue with oneself and with other people. Once Ive decided on a concept part of my process before I begin to paint is to have a conversation with someone I can really open up to about what it makes me feel and think . Afterwards I like to change a variable about that situation, say choose a person Im not comfortable with, or maybe drink few glasses of wine, or perhaps re-approach the subject when Im feeling more or less emotional than normal and have the conversation again, again and again throughout production. This allows me to have a unique comprehension of the paintings theme and helps develop context and content layers throughout production, which in turn ads depth to the conversation. For some of my works I hand build the frames and stretch the canvas myself rather than buying pre-stretched canvas. This is directly related to the content of the painting as a metaphor for how I build towards certain understandings in life and how that makes the view point unique to me as opposed to a bought canvas that represents an idea that I believ
