August 22nd I took my 5 year old son to have a tooth that I was told needed to be extracted. After arriving at the office my son was given a sedative by mouth in a small cup to drink. He immediately threw up at least 50% of the mixture. I was told to keep an eye on him as he might have vomited it up and it not work.



After approximately 15 minutes a nurse came to me and my son and she wanted to take him in the back for the procedure. He was not ready and he was still very alert. I told the nurse this and she informed me she was only going to be taking x-rays and would be back shortly with him.



Ten to 15 minutes later a nurse comes from the back frantically calling for me and I can now hear my son screaming my name. I rushed to the back and he was being held down by the shoulders by 3-4 nurses and I snatched him up very quickly. He had blood coming from his mouth and was wet from head to toe.



He had urinated all over himself. This Dr. had removed my sons tooth while he was not sedated and not numb. My wife and I confronted the staff. I was furious and red. I asked why he was was operated on since I just told the nurse he was not ready. I also asked why they did not stop if he was urinating himself. Dr. Doves exact words were " I cant help it if your son pees during operation" I was getting redder.



At this time I decided it would be better for me to leave the office and get my son out of the office. My wife and I were trying to calm him and get him into the car and my rage got the best of me. I had to confront the Dr. I went back into the office and demanded somebody speak to me and explain how against my wishes my son was operated while not sedated and that I was ( expletive off). The office manager came to the front and took me to a back room to speak in private.



I asked her how they could do this, why they would do this and why did they not stop when he was obviously in pain and scared. The office manager responded" Normally we go ahead with the procedure because people take time off work to get there kids here and we want to get it done for them" I was getting redder. The office manager then said" she would put it my sons file to not operate unless he was completely sedated". I had to leave the office before i burst.



So after leaving I called the Bakersfield Police department and informed them I wanted to file a assault or battery against the Dr. for what the did to my son and explained the story as I did above. I was told by a officer over the phone that this was a civil case and there was nothing they could do. BS!! I thought. So I called a few lawyers to see about filing a claim against the Dr.



No help here locally from anyone I called which was a few big names here in Bakersfield. I then called the District Attorneys office and told my story to them.



Finally after speaking to very nice woman there and telling her my story she gave me the information I needed to be able try and make sure this does not happen to another kid and possibly more.

I love coming here. Dr. Dove is very nice, and his whole staff is great very helpful, and very nice.

I took my daughter to Dentist(Edward E Dove, DDS in Chatsworth, CA) 6 days ago to because my Dentist was not able to do the work. She of course like any other child is afraid of the Dentist, so they referred us to Dr. Dove. The 1st appointment I was allowed to go in the back while he assessed her and while she got her x-rays. On the day of her procedure I was not allowed to go back even though she was being sedated! They gave her a liquid to drink and brought her to me until they called her. I was never told the name of the liquid besides it is a child "cocktail" and it is given per their weight in which she was weighed that morning. It took them close to an hour to call her to do the work. I was NEVER told that she would be strapped down...what is the purpose of the sedation medication? Why does a sedated child need to be strapped down without a family member present? The "child cocktail" must be a hoax to collect a $150.00 fee from the Parents because it does not work. He admittedly told me after they were finished that my daughter "tried to break away" and "she kept trying to get up"! Why didn't he stop to come get me? I AM LIVID! He then said to me that "he told her she had to be a big girl and he had no more problems after that." When they walked my daughter around the corner she was horrified, crying excessively and saying "Mom I couldn't breathe.". I said Ashley what do you mean? He didn't care to explain and she just clinged to me sobbing! I carried her to the car and she fell asleep all the way home. At home when she woke up about an hour later, she said she could not breathe because he placed his hand over her mouth while pinching her nose and telling her "SUCK IT UP YOU HAVE TO BE A BIG GIRL"! She said she could not breathe!!! He did this while she was strapped down, so not only could I not hear her yell for me BUT she could not try to fight for herself! I cannot express my emotions in a positive way but I do not see why his license has not been taken away. The Police came to my home, spoke to my daughter. He has 3 office locations that I know of and has already been on the news in Bakersfield regarding this type of abuse he is causing to his minor patients! There are 2 Facebook Groups that have been created regarding this "child specialist" Edward E. Dove, DDS 1)Bakersfied Dentist Does Not ROCK and 2)Let's investigate Dr. Dove of Chatsworth...you won't believe that this is happening frequent and often and is very unacceptable to a lot of parents! I wish I saw the news story that Bakersfield aired on him on 09/01/11 because I would have never taken my daughter to him. She has nightmares about this incident and I will have a hard time(which I already did) getting to ever go to ANY Dentist for any future treatments or cleanings! I want his license taken away so he cannot continue to abuse and place fear in helpless children. I also want him to be in prison for abusing my daughter, because if I did what he did I would have been arrested after the Police spoke to her! The reason he continues to get away with it is because our Law Enforcement and Authorities are not doing their jobs! If he was stopped when the first parent contacted the Law, he would not have been able to do this to my daughter or the other children that have been hurt emotionally and physically by Edward Dove. Please see that this does not fall through the cracks and the necessary actions are setup to properly stop this man from abusing his position and our children!
