FYI...the previous 2 comments were left by former employees (or firends of) who were unhappy with our new kitchen manager's attendance and hiring policies. If there are any questions or concerns, please call the restaurant and talk to one of the owners. If you have any concerns, we invite you to review our execellent inspection reports at the Hamilton County Public Health web site. We are a very proud small family owned restaurant serving Good Food for 50 years. We would like to thank our loyal customers and friends for supporting our 150 year old schoolhouse and the families who work here. We invite you to come experience our restaurant sometime in the near future. Vistit our web page : theschoolhousecincinnat, com for more information about the restaurant. Thank you.

I have been going to the School House for years and I have always had a great time there! I met Chris and the rest of the crew when my husband took me there on a date. They are really good people, but if you have ever been to the School House on Mother's Day or believe it or not Thanksgiving Day you would understand how the team has to keep people moving in and out of the dinning area. It is a small place, but if family style dinning is what you want then it will not get better then here. My hat is off to everyone who works there!!!!!!!!

I really wanted to like this restaurant because of the good reviews. However, our experience was very mixed. The salad was great, the corn fritters are amazing. The rest of the food not so much. We ordered the fried chicken and a special of baked chicken with alfredo pasta. Both meals were barely warm. The chicken with the pasta was dry and almost cold in the center. The fried chicken clearly sat around after being cooked. Not what I call great for two meals costing $15 each.
In addition, we were practically pushed through our meal. We were told there were large parties coming and things were going to be very crowded. Wasn't really concerned about it until we were offered take home boxes about 10 minutes after we got our entrees????? We overheard discussions from the staff about available seating and they pointed at our table and said ""two places there"". This was about the same time we received the take out bags. The check came shortly thereafter with a comment: ""No dessert, right"" as opposed to ""Did you want dessert?"" Obviously they wanted us gone.
I got the impression that this is a restaurant with a regular crowd and they just simply do not care if new people come in. Well, not to worry, I will not become a regular or even a repeat customer. What a waste of $60.

We LOVE this place. I cannot understand the first review.
I don't think I have ever had better fried chicken. The baby beef liver & onions, to die for. My wife will tell you she doesn't like cole slaw, but when we go to The Schoolhouse, sometimes she will eat 3 helpings of slaw. You have never had stewed tomatoes until you've had them at The Schoolhouse.
The restaurant itself is so quaint. The prices, quite reasonable. PS, try the corn fritters! Yummy.

I and 11 others visited the Schoolhouse Restaurant this evening (my first time) and I have heard from local Fodder and online reviews alike that this place was the best in town for Fried Chicken and ""good 'ol down home cookin""....well my question is this. What town? I would very much like to visit the kitchen as I have serious doubts as to whether the chicken is breaded there, or pre-prepared and then just fried there. The chicken was dry, and at that price for 7 pieces of chicken makes KFC look like a great deal. Yes you get your food served ""family style"" on a lazy susan...let me add on top of a fake stick on table cloth, the green beans were obviously from a large can or jar, the cole- slaw if it really is home made should take a Que from even a ""value brand"" at your local grocery, if you have ever actually had home made apple sauce you would know immediately that it wasnt from any home nearby. The salad was the same kind of dreary near limp mix that was served with some what I believe is some French and Catalina dressings' combined. As far as the dessert menu? Sure the cobbler's etc sounded good, but by the time I got to that point, I didn't want to pay that much for what I was afraid may have been purchased at the local grocer's bakery section and then sold with what would equal about a 150% mark up. Now don't get me wrong, the staff is friendly, I hear that they only employ locals in what was described as a deprived town, it is a very cool school house, there is a pen in the back with a couple of goats that the kids can pay 25 cents and feed them. Its right off of the Loveland/Little Miami Bike Trail which if you are from the surrounding area has an appeal all its own. The problem is, is that once you get the bill, a lot of that charm dis-appears. The guy at the table next to me (its tight) knew the owner/manager personally and told me that every year he and wife travel to some exotic location in the off season. This year they took a long vacation to visit many points down the South American Coast. I couldn't help but wonder as I was paying the bill if the ""down home cookin"" was laughing all the way to the beach.

I think that this restaurant is wonderful! The fried chicken is really tastey and tastes just like home. It's only an old one room school house so it is really small. The servers can give you a family meal and you will get mashed potatoes, salad, cole slaw, applesauce, and cornbread. My personal favorite is the homemade applesauce! They also have a farm in the back, with some farm animals you can feed. Great for kids!
