Should a dog jump all over you and have minimal obedience after being at a trainer for 13 months? This one does.

Should a dog that has been at the trainer 13 months know how jump in and out of a dog blind to hunt? This one doesn’t.

Should a dog that has been at the trainer 13 months tuck tail and piss herself when you put the e-collar on her or raise your voice with a command? This one does.

Should a dog that has been at the trainer 13 months sit in the heal position for more than a few seconds during a hunt? This one runs away 30 yards behind the blind and will not obey without repeated commands.

If you want a dog that fetches bumpers and runs drills to look pretty use Wolf Creek Retrievers. If you’re looking for a dog that hunts/works 30+ days a season please use someone else.

The easy out is to blame the dog/breeding/me the owner and I take responsibility for not being at the kennel more often. I should have been there weekly to ensure Ember was getting worked and shouldn’t have trusted the occasional text/video from Orie insuring she was “coming along nicely”. All dogs are not created equally and if Ember was not going to make the cut Orie had more than enough opportunity to wash her out and I could have started another dog with him and cut my losses. Please research your trainer and go with the one that can do fulfill your expectations for your dog.
