Bang H. Hoang, MD, is Arnold S. and Madaleine Penner Endowed Professor, Orthopedic Surgery, Director, Musculoskeletal Oncology Lab, Co-Director, Orthopedic Oncology and Research Director, Orthopedic Surgery at Montefiore Einstein. He specializes in musculoskeletal tumor surgery and is an expert in benign and malignant tumors, metastatic bone disease, pathologic fractures, complex bone and joint reconstruction with large-segment prosthesis and allograft, tumors of the pelvis and sacrum and investigational therapy for bone and soft tissue sarcoma.Dr. Hoang received his Doctor of Medicine from UCLA School of Medicine in 1995. During medical school, he was selected by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to receive training at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University and an orthopedic oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in 2003Under his leadership, Montefiore Musculoskeletal Oncology Research focuses on the pathophysiology and therapeutic targets of bone and soft tissue sarcoma. Dr. Hoang is active in collaborative research and clinical trials both nationally and internationally, and his work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts. He has been invited as a lecturer or visiting professor at multiple institutions, including the University of California, Columbia, Emory, Harvard, Thomas Jefferson, Johns Hopkins, McGill and YaleDr. Hoang is board certified and is the first orthopedic surgeon in the United States to receive a K08 Career Development Award from the National Cancer Institute for his research in children’s bone cancer. In addition, he has received multiple awards, including the AOA-North American Traveling Fellowship, the Kappa Delta Anne Doner Vaughn Award, the OREF Career Development Award, the Orthopedic Research Society NIRA award, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Chairman’s Award and US News and World Report Top Doctor. He is a member of the American Orthopedic Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, the American Association for Cancer Research and the Connective Tissue Oncology Society. He has served on numerous scientific, grant funding, and educational committees for national organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the Orthopedic Research and Education Foundation, the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
