Just terrible customer service. The lady who owns the store is unbelievably rude and unkind. I think she's the worst person I've ever met! So sad.

I go there a few times a year, and overall have found it a pleasant experience. In the past it was a little impersonal but has improved over the years. The ladies are personable with a sense of humor and even dressed up for Halloween! The gift shop is small but enchanting and full of interesting items, many local.. I would allow time and not for extra large mailings. For a unique postal experience with shopping, I'd recommend it. Gunbarrel rocks!

All the Yelp warnings listed here are correct. You should know that it's a contract sub-station, not a full-service post office. It's for buying stamps and mailing non-complicated packages, so don't try to do anything else. Always way crowded before Christmas, so plan ahead or go to a "real" post office.

The lady who owns the place is the scary one, if you manage to go when one of her staff is working alone, you'll have a much better experience. I've been going there for 15 years and am still alive.

Go here if you want to see the rudest lady in town. If you want professional treatment and your stuff reaching in time go to the one at Valmont.

Harassed by Store Owner

I made the mistake of walking in to this post office (which is also a giftshop) during lunch hour, which is 1-2pm (you can only read this on the door of the store, not the USPS website). The store is open but not the post office during this hour. My watch read 5 till 2pm and the woman behind the desk immediately started yelling at me that I'd have to wait 14 minutes until her lunch hour was complete. There was no "Hello" or "I'm sorry we're still on lunch break." Nothing but rudeness. And then she started shouting profanity at me. I couldn't believe my ears! My husband called the store to try and get more information and she wouldn't give him her name, although she made a point of telling me mulitple times that she owned the store. I told her I'd be taking my business elsewhere. These people should not be allowed to operate under the United States Postal Service if they have the audacity to talk to customers like this.

Could it be better?

The gunbarrel post office has staff that is friendly and kind to the regulars. For the irregular patrons, its a place to avoid. The staff is unbelievably aloof and rude. There's a dog around sometimes that adds to the general ruccus.

Staff does not believe in serving with a smile. :)

Its a dull experience going there and you really wish to finish your work and run.

It could be a better place if the ladies who serve there were more patient and had a more warm and welcoming smile and a willingness to help as an attitude and not a duty.
