Thomas was raised in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1984. He completed orthopaedic surgery residency at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in 1995 and went on to provide orthopaedic surgical care for the Air Force for four additional years. He completed specialized fellowship training at the Hughston Sports Medicine Foundation in Columbus, Georgia in 2000 with selected emphasis on shoulder surgery and received the Hughston Shoulder certificate. Dr. Chopp is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of orthopaedic surgery. He has practiced orthopaedic surgery for the past twenty years and is now in partnership with Dr. Thomas Goodwin and Dr. Joseph Lynch. Dr. Chopp has extensive training and experience in treatment of the athlete’s shoulder from youth to the active adult. Over the past fourteen years Dr. Chopp has provided care of shoulder fractures, traumatic soft tissue injuries, and sports related injuries of the entire shoulder complex; to include all-arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and instability procedures- most of which are completed on an outpatient basis. For the arthritic and rotator cuff deficient shoulder, Dr. Chopp provides non-operative and surgical treatment to include partial, total, and “reverse” total shoulder replacement surgery. Dr. Chopp provides operative and non-operative treatment of a wide range of shoulder diagnoses to include: sports, trauma, rotator cuff injuries and arthritis in patients of all ages.
