Back in early spring my wife and I were planning on moving to Florida becuase of ou jobs. Upon advice of our realtor she recomend we get 3 quotes. We first called Capitol Moving in South Windsor, CT and the man on the phone said he was unable to come over and see what we have to move, he only told us to get quotes and he will beat the best one by $500. Sounding like a used car sales man I hung up the phone. My next call was to Woodland Moving in Hartford, CT and the person on the phone Daniel was nice to deal with and told me an in home survey/estimate is ideal. I scheduled it with him and then called NationWide Moving in Bloomfield, CT. The person on the phone was ok but a little pushy to do a phone survey as he wanted to put it. We scheduled a in home survey and was told Bob was coming out. The day came for the survey and Woodland Moving was for 10am and Nationwide Moving was for 12:30. The man from Woodland showed up 10 minutes early and told me " a person who is always early, is never late" I will remember that for sure. I showed the man from Woodland Moving my home and indicated some packing was needed. He educated me about how movers go by cubic feet which equals overall weight. He was in my home for about 30 minutes and even took off his shoes. I told the mna i was getting one more quote from a local mover Nationwide Moving. His response was " OK" He continued to go over his company policies and etc. I actually found this man pleasant to deal with. However I still had to see what options are out there as far as price and service. The man from Nationwide Moving showed up at 1pm and had an excusse while he was late. I ask Bob numerous questions and all he wanted to know was who else was bidding this move and what their price was. I informed him Woodland Moving was the other bidder, at that moment Bob told me not to go with Woodland Moving as they will quote one thing and charge much higher. While skeptical i have heard stories of movers doing this. Both men did their surveys and Woodland quoted me $8,312.53 to move to florida based on 10,000lbs and packing at a nice discount. Nationwide Moving quoted me $6,194.00 with roughly same amount of packing no weight disclosed. Since the man from Woodland Moving told me its all base on weight, i was yet again little skeptical of Nationwide Movings quote, Bob reassured me its all good and it was based on 12,500 lbs. So here Nationwide Moving is lower in costs on a much larger shippment. I said yes to Nationwide feeling their price was such a great deal. I called Woodland Moving and thanked Daniel for his time and told him i was going with Nationwide Moving, he thanked me and wished me well. I called Nationwide Moving and told them to get the paperwork going and lets do this. Move day came and the crew showed up on time, two of the men smelled of cigs and bad body odor and i wasnt happy. I called Nationwide Moving and Bob told me the crew just came from another small move where the customer smelled. I asked the crew where they came from and told me they just came from Nationwide Moving, i asked if they were on a move before mine and they said no. The crew was there from 830am till 4pm and all was done. I got a phone call the following day to go over what was my final bill. The overall weight was 10,113 lbs which was under their estimate. Estimates going by on weight i knew their inital price of $6,194.00 should be lower..... boy was i wrong. They decreased their overall discount and added junk fees that were never on the estimate.
