Don't Send Your Child Here

Doesn't offer "Christian growing experience" that it promises. Through my experiences over the years I have seen so many things occur that are a complete opposite from what the camp is supposed to be teaching about. The things that happen in the cabin are absurd. I've heard counselors curse at campers, campers curse at counselors, campers fight and curse with each other and so much more. There are a number of occasions that I saw first-hand when male and female counselors would get other staff members to keep an eye on their kids while they snuck away at night to have inappropriate relations. I also saw one time where a member of the administration smoked pot with two other staff members and then went and talked to campers while under the influence. This is certainly not the environment I would want my child to be in, especially when they would be there to be growing in their relationship with Christ. Also, campers are miserable the whole time they are there. The main reason for this is no planning. Over the past few years there has been so much down time that it seemed like all the campers were getting to do was go eat meals, go swimming, and a short session of their camp-specific activity. All of the other time was being spent lounging around either in the cabins or other areas of camp. Almost every time the staff or a camper would suggest an activity it would get shot down by the administration. Also, all of the classic camp activities that all of the campers looked forward to each year got taken away and administration refused to reincorporate them. The experience is certainly not worth the high price tag that it costs to go to camp. If you want your child to get a truly fun Christian summer camping experience then I would reccomend sending them to another one of the local camps. The administration has always been unfair in their treatment of the staff. Each year they will have their favorite counselors and will put their workload on to the not-so-favorite counselors. I have personally seen highly liked counselors unfairly freed up from their responsibilities by the administration. In 2011, the administration even took the "cool" staff members out drinking at the local bar and some were even wearing their camp t-shirts. A great example for a Christian camp staff. A lot of "politics" exist within the powers that run Camp Pee Dee and has just become a miserable place to attend camp or work.
