I bought a VW turnkey engine from JCS and went on my trip to Arizona right after the engine was installed. Broke down due to engine failure and towed to a small local auto repair shop. Old guy tells me not a good idea to put long strenous miles on a new engine. He checks it out, tells me overheated probably because of a need for tuning adjustments required after a couple hundred miles or so. I call JCS and they tell me engine not covered under warranty for overheating and points out that recommended maintenance instructions are sent out with new engines. My mechanic who installed the engine never gave me that set of instruction. JCS pays for engine to be sent back to them, they repair it and charge me their cost of replacement parts ($295.00) and then send it back. Lost 5 days of my vacation but JCS stood by their product and delivered great customer service! I need a VW engine again I will certainly be back.

1776 Engine VW BUS "Samba"

We purchased a turnkey engine from JCS. First road trip, less than 300 miles on engine we had to be towed home. They did pay to have engine shipped back, repaired it shipped it back to us. AGAIN, at 800 miles engine broke down again. We were on a road trip. Far from home we called JCS they said no warranty to bad and call ATK who built the engine. Who the hell is ATK? Well they were the "real" engine builer. We asked them the first time what was wrong with the engine the answer was we don't know. After our attorney told us to contact them. They then changed their story and said it was due to over reaving. IN A VW BUS??? HELLO? Terrible customer service, terrible product, bad quality and no help from them. Had to have our new JCS/ATK engine rebuilt at 1200 miles. It left us stranded and they did NOTHING. STAY AWAY. 1/9/09

You purchased the engine from ATK, one of our distributers, and the engine was built by JCS. You paid ATK their purchase price of the engine and there was no invoice, sales contract, or any financial transaction between you and JCS. Very much like purchasing a Sony television from Best Buy. Both ATK and JCS warranty conditions are clearly stated and cover STOCK replacement engines only. A 1776 engine is considered a performance upgrade for the stock 1600. A performance warranty is available at additional cost. YOU DID NOT HAVE ANY WARRANTY included in your transaction with ATK. That being said, you say in the beginning of your review JCS initially paid the shipping to return the engine to us, we repaired the engine at no cost and then we paid the return shipping to you. That is called customer service! Your ending comments in the review of "terrible customer service and no help from them" is quite a contradiction to your own statements! And then your proceed to bash the second engine we sent you. So you claim JCS sent you TWO bad engines.....not a chance the problem might be related to you or your mechanic who did the installation.....
