Better Asian markets elsewhere, except for the hot ginger tofu

I've been going to this grocery store for years, but more because I had to rather than wanted to. The service is average with indifferent but not rude employees. The produce often has to be picked through, beacuse it's usually in bad shape. The smell is pretty awful the moment you step in as many Asian markets tend to be--mind you, managed well, Asian markets do not have to smell terrible. Take those you find in Houston or Dallas for example. However, Austin still has a lot of catching up to do to the bigger cities, so for now, what we have is passable.

Also, beware of the baked goods and che in this market and any other market in Austin. I've come across more desserts that were too old or had gone bad than I'd like to remember. One of the problems is that they tend to buy a lot of their stuff from the bigger cities like Houston. Try going for the small cafes that make their own desserts. Sometimes those sit around for a while too, but at least you have a better chance of them being fresher.

The best that I can say about this market for now is that they carry one of my favorite snacks: fresh, hot tofu with ginger. They even add a new twist to it with extra coconut milk which makes a healthy snack quite decadent but very delicious. Also, this market is the "nicest" one that's closer into town than the MT Supermarket up in North Austin.
