What a nightmare! Long delays and low quality.



I paid for a front door in December. After several delays, a door was finally installed, but it cracked and warped within a week. It turns out it was also a different type of door - a less expensive and presumably a lesser build quality than the one I had been sold in the showroom.



When I spoke with Don at the Door Outlet, he told me that in addition to being a defective "surplus" door, he didn't think the finish was good. In an email he admitted:



"I myself thought that the finish that we put on your door was poorly done. It should have had at least one or even two more coats on it. That would not have stopped the issues the door had but it would have had a much smoother looking finish." - Don Byers



This led me to wonder why he had decided deliver the door in the first place...



I showed Don pictures of the original door - the one his salesperson, Morgan, had sold me on the showroom floor. Don advised me that it would be more expensive than the $1200 or so I had already paid months ago.



The salesperson, Morgan, never explained to me that I would receive something with a different design and I was never shown any other example besides the one I had chosen. I hope she was not intentionally misleading me in order to make a sale - baiting me with a nice product, and then switching it for a lesser quality.



After months of delays, and defective and incorrect product, I asked that Don please cancel my order and make a refund. But unfortunately, he refuses to satisfy my request.



Today I spoke with another door company in Austin about a quote. I'm out hundreds of dollars, it has been a hassle that has taken months, and I have no door.

No stars! This place is awful! Crappy quality, crappy service, etc. All smoke and mirrors. Run, don't walk, the other way. They have doors on the floor that are "available" except when you want to buy them. They say "we can order more" but then it's more than double the price! When I needed a whole house of interior and exterior doors, which would have been well over $10k, they wouldn't quote me. I requested the same quote on doors at least 5 times over 4+ months. The only person that quote is apparently someone named Don Byer. He lied after 3 months and said he had pneumonia. Well, I went to the store a good 4 times in these 3 months and he was "on site" just with others and couldn't help me. When I asked if he had gotten over his 3 months of pneumonia he told me that he didn't want my business. That's fine, I'll just let the public know how this place operates (or doesn't operate at all) and how rude they are. I suggest going with a reputable company instead!

Don't waste your time and money! These people do not know how to do business, their craftsmanship is terrible and so is their overall service. They took my money and delivered a defective product after 5 months and they would not fix it.

Today I had the wonderful experience of working with The Door Outlet. I had a front door which required replacement and this company provided me with the level of knowledge, experience, and professionalism that one requires when working with and paying for service providers. Don, the owner, was extremely knowledgeable and explained the entire process from start to finish and answered all my concerns to complete satisfaction…and most importantly followed through as explained. Rick, the technician, was extremely pleasant, thorough, and professional as he worked on replacing the door. If you should ever face a need which requires their specific level of expertise, I highly recommend that they be contacted for your service.
