Michael J. Johnson, M.D., is a board certified Interventional Cardiologist. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor of science and obtained his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Virginia, where he served as chief resident. He then trained in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology for five years at the Cleveland Clinic. During his Interventional Cardiology fellowship, Dr. Johnson received specialized training in complex coronary interventions including chronic total occlusions, peripheral vascular interventions and structural heart interventions. Born and raised in Augusta, Dr. Johnson returned home to join the staff at University Hospital. His clinical interests include all facets of interventional cardiology, but he focuses specifically in structural heart disease, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), percutaneous mitral valve repair, left atrial appendage occlusion and PFO/ASD occlusion. In addition to Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Johnson is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiology. He lives in Augusta with his wife and two children.
