An immuno-competent skin model is among the products under development from MatTek Corporation. The company is one of the worldwide industry leaders in tissue engineering. MatTek produces normal (non-transformed), human cell-derived, 3-D organotypic in vitro tissue models for use in product development/efficacy, claims substantiation, safety assessment and target organ research applications. The creative use of non-animal (in vitro) testing was fueled by the synergistic effect of lower (direct/indirect) costs and improved product quality. MatTek reduced product cost and increased lab efficiency by delivering reproducible products. Located in Ashland, Mass., MatTek Corporation was founded in 1985 by two chemical engineering professors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
