What once began as a small entrepreneurial endeavor, Togar Rugs has evolved into a very successful direct importer and wholesaler. Tunc Togar, the owner, was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. After graduating from the University of Istanbul where he received an MBA in Business he started working as a tour guide and rug salesman. He met quite a few Americans while working including his wife Nancy Pomeroy who was sightseeing in Turkey. The two were married in 1977 and decided to live stateside in Asheville, North Carolina. At this time, they were still making frequent trips between their homelands so they quickly devised a way to help finance their trips. On each trip back from Turkey they brought with them a few hand selected rugs to sell to friends and family. Their small business quickly became a large wholesale company importing carpets from Turkey and Iran. Over 30 years the family business has expanded and today the Togars have two wholesale warehouses. Mr. Togar’s sister manages the seven story warehouse in Istanbul that serves as the company’s base and the 12,000 square foot warehouse in Asheville houses a current inventory of over 3,000 hand-knotted antique, old, and new rugs. In addition, to both warehouses they now have showrooms at Market Square in High Point, North Carolina and The Merchandise Mart in Atlanta, Georgia. During the summer months, the Togar’s are traveling throughout Turkey and the surrounding areas personally hand selecting each handmade one-of-a-kind rug. The warehouse in Asheville generally receives four to six large shipments towards the end of every year. We currently work with and welcome new designers, dealers, and decorators from far and wide. Customers are welcome to stop by at any time and browse or take advantage of the hands-on knowledgeable sales associates. There is a rug for every taste and every budget. In addition, to the wonderful selection we also offer an exchange policy for Turkish and Persian rugs for up to two years after purchase. If you keep your original invoice and the rug is in sellable condition we will deduct a small amount for cleaning and give you the remaining credit towards the purchase of another rug.

We are the perfect place to start your search for the perfect rug. We've been a direct importer of fine rugs for more than 35 years and have fostered relationships with the artisans who make them. Each rug is hand-selected by Mr. Togar and is often between 30 to 70 years old, so you'll never see another rug exactly like it again. Rug washing is done at our warehouse in Asheville by our professionally trained staff. We have the right equipment to wash the rugs and when you come to our warehouse you can visit the site where the carpets are washed. You can also see the room size tumbler, which we have brought from Turkey for washing rugs. This is a device that you won’t see anywhere else in the States. We recommend that you have your carpets professionally cleaned every one to three years depending on the amount of traffic the carpet gets. Bring the carpet to our warehouse location or call us to schedule a pickup. The cleaning process starts with a inspection of the carpet to determine if the carpet has stains, previous color run, or other defects. We will measure your carpet and quote a price for the cleaning fee. We currently charge $2.00 a square foot for cleaning. Repair and Restoration If your carpet is in need of repair bring the carpet to our warehouse location in Asheville or call us to arrange a pickup. Our professionally trained staff will inspect the carpet and discuss with you the type of repair that your carpet needs. Minor repairs such as raveling fringe, loose fringe, small holes, or repiling of worn areas can be repaired at our warehouse in Asheville. We also offer a unique opportunity each year for your cherished rugs to be restored by hand in Turkey without incurring shipping costs. We send a container to Turkey every year at the end of May. The rugs are repaired at our warehouse in Istanbul and are shipped back to US generally around the beginning of the next year sometime in January.
