Founded in 1947, the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities, also known as IAMU, is a nonprofit organization that represents more than 550 municipal electric, gas, water and telecommunication utilities throughout Iowa. It maintains a marketing relationship with over 185 associate member businesses. The association administers disaster assistance and mutual aid programs, as well as represents municipal utility interests before the state legislature. It prepares model plans, rules and ordinances to assist in the compliance of state and federal requirements.The Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities also offers assistance in the formulation and implementation of energy efficiency programs. It conducts workshops and training sessions for water and wastewater operators and managers. The association offers on-site technical assistance services for public water supplies. It provides property, casualty, liability and workers compensation insurance plans. The association is located in Ankeny, Iowa.
