Operational since 1668, the Amesbury Fire Department provides a range of protective and preventive fire services. It enforces a yearly fire alarm and sprinkler test that includes properly checking and maintaining false alarm systems. The department has an arson investigation team to find the origin and causes of fire. The Amesbury Fire Department also offers prehospital care to the victims of accidents and fires. In addition, it has advanced and basic life support ambulances, which are equipped with external cardiac defibulators to provide emergency medical services. The department offers SAFE Education, a program set up to prevent fires. The program includes a smoke trailer that simulates a real fire situation to help children learn how to react in a fire. It is located in Amesbury, Mass.
